The unusual clingfish Protogobiesox asymmetricus n. gen, n. sp. is described on the basis of four specimens collected in deep water off the north coast of Papua New Guinea in 2012. The species is characterized by its 9-10 dorsal rays, 8 anal rays, 17-24 pectoral-fin rays, 15 principal caudal-fin rays, 3 gills, third arch with 3 gill rakers, 34-35 total vertebrae, with asymmetrical lateral bending starting behind the skull, bent at an angle of 858-928; skull asymmetrical in frontal view; skin naked, surface of head and body without striae; disc without adhesive papillae. Taxinomie et épidémiologie moléculaires du parasite Marteilia refringens Grizel et al. 1974 : intérêt pour la gestion du risque sanitaire en conchyliculture ArchiMer

Infectious diseases are currently recognised as a major limiting factor to development and sustainability of aquaculture of molluscs. The study is focused on the European flat oyster, Ostrea edulis and its paramyxean parasite Marteilia refringens. Results are contributing to the prevention of risk associated to infected stocks imports from endemic zones, by developing molecular diagnostic tools that are specific, sensible and reliable. Phylogeny and taxonomy of Marteilia refringens, previously impeded by microscopy limits, were clarified by sequencing the rDNA SSU, small sub-unit in the rRNA gene cluster. En France, ainsi que dans de nombreux autres pays, l'histoire de l'ostréiculture est émaillée d'une succession de phases de développement, de surexploitation et d'apparition de maladies qui perturbent lourdement la profession. Depuis la disparition massive de l'huître portugaise, Crassostrea angulata, victime entre 1969 et 1971 d'une épidémie virale et l'effondrement de l'élevage de l'huître plate Ostrea edulis dû à deux parasitoses, la marteiliose et la bonamiose, l'ostréiculture française connaît actuellement une situation de monoculture de l'huître creuse japonaise Crassostrea gigas, suite à l'introduction de l'espèce entre 1971 et 1975 (Grizel & al. 1991). Pour tenter de remédier à cette situation de monoculture, qui reste une des inquiétudes...
