Physico-chemical and sensory parameters of tomato cultivars grown in organic systems Horticultura Brasileira
Araujo,Jacqueline C; Silva,Paula PM; Telhado,Samuel FP; Sakai,Rogério H; Spoto,Marta HF; Melo,Paulo CT.
The objectives of this research were to perform the physical, chemical and sensorial characterization, for hybrid and open pollinated tomato, within the Santa Cruz and Italian groups, aiming fresh consumption. A total of 14 fresh market tomato cultivars was used, six of them being experimental varieties and eight were commercial ones. The experimental design was of randomized blocks with six replicates and five plants per plot. For the chemicophysical analysis, samples of ripe fruits were randomly extracted from five plants in each plot, labeled and maintained under refrigeration at 5ºC until the next day after harvest. Afterwards, fruits of all cultivars were mixed, ground and divided in triplicates to be submitted to the physicochemical analysis. From...

Characterization of two types of azedinha in the region of Sete Lagoas, Brazil Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Ernani C da; Carlos,Lanamar de A; Araújo,Ana Paula; Ferraz,Leila de CL; Pedrosa,Marinalva W; Silva,Luana Sabrine.
Azedinha (Rumex acetosa) is a vegetable crop species consumed in natura in salads and pertains to the group of non-conventional vegetables. These rustic plants are often considered weeds plants. There exist two types of native azedinha in the Sete Lagoas region, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, that are usually grown in family gardens and here denominated Type I and Type II. In this study we characterized the morphologic, physic-chemical and chromatic characteristic of these two types of azedinha. The study was carried out in randomized complete blocks with four replications in dependences of the EPAMIG (Non-Conventional Vegetable Bank) in Prudente de Morais, Brazil. Plants were trained to the point of harvest, 90 days after the planting of seedlings, when they...

Essential plant oils in reducing the intensity of soft rot in Chinese cabbage Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Guerra,Myrzânia de Lira; Guerra,Yrlânia de Lira; Souza,Elineide Barbosa de; Mariano,Rosa de Lima Ramos.
The action of essential oils in reducing soft rot in Chinese cabbage, and their influence on the colorimetry and physicochemical characteristics of the vegetable were evaluated. In the greenhouse, plants of the cultivar Natsume were sprayed with 11 oils selected in preliminary tests for phytotoxicity: bergamot, lemongrass, copaiba, Eucalyptus citriodora, blue gum, fennel, ginger, spearmint, sweet orange, lemon and clary sage (0.5%) and also the antibiotic Mycoshield® (3 g L-1). After 72 hours the plants were inoculated with Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc-c). The oils and the Mycoshield® significantly reduced (P<0.05) the severity (SEV) and the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). The oils of bergamot, copaiba, E....

Electrospinning synthesis and assessment of physicochemical properties and biocompatibility of cobalt nitrate fibers for wound healing applications Anais da ABC (AABC)
JAGANATHAN,SARAVANA KUMAR; MANI,MOHAN P..
Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop polyurethane (PU) wound dressing incorporated with cobalt nitrate using electrospinning technique. The morphology analysis revealed that the developed composites exhibited reduced fiber and pore diameter than the pristine PU. The electrospun membranes exhibited average porosity in the range of 67% - 71%. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectra (EDS) showed the presence of cobalt in the PU matrix. The interaction of cobalt nitrate with PU matrix was evident in Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The contact angle results indicated the improved wettability of the prepared PU/cobalt nitrate composites (82° ± 2) than the pure PU (100° ± 1). The incorporation of cobalt...

Physico-chemical and harvest time alterations in pineapple fruits ‘Smooth Cayenne’ caused by paclobutrazol BABT
Antunes,Andréa Maria; Ono,Elizabeth Orika; Sampaio,Aloísio Costa; Rodrigues,João Domingos.
The aim of this work was to assess the effect of an inhibitor acting in the floral differentiation on the physico-chemical characteristics of pineapple fruits and on the effect in the harvest time. Paclobutrazol was used at concentrations of 100, 150, and 200 mg L-1, applied 2, 3 or 4 times in ‘Smooth Cayenne’ pineapple plants. The treatment did not influence the chemical characteristics of the fruits, and even having some physical alterations, they were within the quality standard for the commercialization. The harvest time was amplified in all the treatments comparing to the control. However, 150 mg L-1 applied twice promoted the best result when analyzing together the harvest time and the fruit fresh matter.
