| Os anestésicos figuram como poderosa ferramenta na aquicultura, atuando na redução do estresse e mortalidade usualmente causados pelo manejo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes concentrações de eugenol em adultos de tilápia e determinar a concentração ideal para realização de uma biometria. Foram avaliadas seis concentrações (30, 60, 120, 180, 240 e 300 mg L-1). Para cada tratamento, 12 peixes (comprimento médio: 32,7 ± 3,0; peso médio: 557,0 ± 160 g), foram imersos individualmente na solução anestésica durante 10 min. | Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) is the fish species most commonly raised in the Brazilian fish farms. The species is highly adaptable to captive conditions, and is both fast-growing and relatively fecund. In recent years, artificial breeding has produced hybrids with Characiform species, known as "Tambacu" and "Tambatinga". Identifying hybrids is a difficult process, given their morphological similarities with the parent species. | The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize Streptococcus spp. in Nile tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in net-pens and earth nurseries. Eight intensive tilapia-rearing farms were investigated in north Paraná, Brazil from April 1st 2001 to April 30th 2002. The fish were reared in a system of hapas nets on four farms and in earth nurseries on other four farms. A total of 370 samples were analyzed of material collected from 120 fish (brain, liver, kidney, skin scrapes, ascites liquid and eye) that were sown on BHI agar (Brain Heart Infusion) supplemented with 1% yeast extract and sheep blood. | Sustainability of fish aquaculture is currently subjected to environmental protection enhancement and to increasing restrictions of water and energy availability. The aim of this work was to study the biotransformations and waste management in a salmonid french farm (Charles Murgat S.A.S, Isère). Quantification of the wastes is necessary for the farmers and administrations to define control tools and treatment systems in view of water legislation respect (French water low, EC Water Framework Directive).
