Effect of planting density on green ear yield of maize cultivars bred in different periods Horticultura Brasileira

Corn cultivation in the Northeast region of Brazil is characterized by a great diversity of production systems, ranging from large companies (modern cultivars and relatively high planting densities) to small farms (family agriculture, traditional cultivars, and low planting densities). In the present work we evaluated the effects of planting density (30; 40; 50; 60; or 70 thousand plants ha-1 - TPH) on green ear yield of cultivars Centralmex (traditional) and AG 510 (hybrid). Como parte del levantamiento ecológico de Punta Fort Williams, donde se encuentra ubicada la Estación Científica Pedro Vicente Maldonado, se ha iniciado un estudio de la cobertura vegetal de la región con miras a determinar su distribución cuali-cuantitativa. En el presente trabajo se describen cinco especies de musgos reunidas en cuatro familias, y diez y nueve especies de líquenes agrupadas en once familias. Estas especies parecen ser las más comunes y representativas de la región estudiada.

In Mata Fresca, an area located on the border of the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, in Brazil, small farmers have a source of income from the production of cassava roots, using planting densities of around 5,000 plants ha-1. This procedure might be helping to limit higher yields of the roots, since some studies have shown that it is possible to obtain higher yields of cassava using higher densities. The present work had the objective of evaluating the effect of different line spacing upon some agronomic parameters of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) culture. The experiment was conducted in county of Palotina, in the west region of Paraná State, Brazil. The studied spacing were 0.8, 1.0, 1.4 e 1.6 m between lines and 0.6 m between plants, which rendered population densities of 20,830, 16,660, 13,880, 11,900 and 10,410 plants/ha. For the production of fresh and dry root matter and stem fresh matter, the best space between lines was 1.0 m. The highest number of tuberous roots per plant, obtained with the space of 1.40 m between lines did not guarantee the highest productivity of root matter/ha.
