CALIBRATION AND TESTING OF CS-CROPGRO MODEL FOR COMMON BEANS REA
Santos,Miquéias G. Dos; Faria,Rogério T. De; Palaretti,Luiz F.; Dantas,Geffson De F.; Dalri,Alexandre B.; Lopes,Adriano Da S..
ABSTRACT: Simulation models of crop growth enable estimating crop yield and water balance components with low cost and high precision. This study aimed to calibrate and evaluate the performance of the CS-CROPGRO model for common beans under the conditions of Jaboticabal city (SP), Brazil. The model was calibrated and tested with data previously collected from two experiments conducted in 2002 and 2003. In these experiments, treatments corresponded to two irrigation scheduling methods (tensiometers and class A pan evaporation) and two cropping systems (conventional and no-till). For calibration, data from the experiment carried out in 2002 were used. For testing, we used data from the experiment conducted in 2003. By using the genetic coefficients...

Populational density and harvest age of carrots for baby carrot manufacture Horticultura Brasileira
Simões,Adriano do N; Moreira,Silvino I; Costa,Franciscleudo B da; Almeida,Alysson Roberto de; Santos,Ricardo HS; Puschmann,Rolf.
The quality of baby carrots may be associated to the standard of the raw material that in turn, may be influenced by agronomic practices. Thus, the effect of planting density and harvest age were assessed on physical and morphological characteristics, yield and end quality of intact and minimally processed carrots in the form of baby carrots. A randomized block experimental design was used with the density in the plots (4 x 20 cm and 4 x 7.5 cm) and the harvest age in the subplots (50, 57, 64, 71, 78, 85, 92, 99 and 106 days), with five replications. The experimental unit consisted of 25 plants. The assessments of diameter, length, yield, secondary phloem translocation with the cambio and total carotenoids were decisive in selecting the carrot harvest age...

Advances in apple culture worldwide Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Robinson,Terence.
Over the last 60 years, planting densities for apple have increased as improved management systems have been developed. Dwarfing rootstocks have been the key to the dramatic changes in tree size, spacing and early production. The Malling series of dwarfing rootstocks (M.9 and M.26) have been the most important dwarfing rootstocks in the world but are poorly adapted in some areas of the world and they are susceptible to the bacterial disease fire blight and the soil disease complex, apple replant disease which limits their uses in some areas. Rootstock breeding programs in several parts of the world are developing improved rootstocks with resistance to fire blight, and replant disease, and improved cold hardiness and yield efficiency. A second important...
