Growth and survival are the two most interesting characters for oyster farming as they determine the biomass produced in the farms (growth x survival). Thus, a selection program aiming at improving these two characters could be of a great help. However, the oyster, as a sessile organism, is influenced by environmental variability (spatial and temporal) either natural or caused by the used oyster culture methods. Submitted to this variability, oysters must have evolved so as to adapt (short term) to this environmental variability.

The farming of aquatic animals has started recently in comparison with that of terrestrial species which domestication started 10 500 years ago. Aquaculture is however the fastest growing animal food-production sector. This sector has now to face several challenges threatening its sustainability. Le transfert d'huîtres d'un secteur de production à un autre, à différents stades de l'élevage est une pratique courante chez les professionnels. L'influence de ces transferts sur la croissance et la survie est actuellement inconnue. Ainsi, il est apparu opportun d'essayer de mettre en évidence le degré de tolérance de diverses populations d'huîtres creuses vis à vis de transferts multiples dans des écosystèmes à productivité différentes. Cette étude a pris en compte la variabilité de deux paramètres (mortalité et croissance) de différentes familles d'huîtres creuses C. gigas soumises à des transferts plus ou moins fréquents entre deux milieux d'élevage dissemblables par la quantité de nourriture apportée (Skeletonema costatum).
