ABSTRACT Invasive species influence the structure and functioning of ecosystems, as they affect native species, significantly decreasing their diversity. Aquatic ecosystems harbor a great biodiversity, and invasive macrophytes significantly affect the native plant communities, causing a cascade effect on other trophic levels. Among invasive macrophytes, Urochloa arrecta is cause for concern in the Neotropics and is found in several regions of Brazil, specially in the southeastern and southern regions. ABSTRACT Leaf anatomy characteristics provide important evidences about the transition between C3 and C4 pathways. The C4 photosynthesis pathway allowed to reduce the C3 photorespiratory rate, concentrating CO2 around the Rubisco site and using structures and machinery already presented in C3 plants. In monocots, it is observed a high number of C4 lineages, most of them phylogenetically related to C3 groups. No presente trabalho são tratadas as espécies de Paspalum que ocorrem no Estado de Pernambuco. O estudo foi baseado em trabalho de campo, com duração de dois anos, e em espécimes analisados em 18 herbários do Brasil. The arbuscular is the most important kind of mycorrhiza for agriculture and it is widespread in occurrence and distribution in most ecosystems. The aim of this work was to study the mycorrhizal status of the species of Commelinidae that occur in the State of Pernambuco. Plant roots, collected in ten municipalities, were washed, cleared in KOH, stained with Trypan blue in lactoglycerol and observed under a light microscope in order to assess presence and identification of the mycorrhizal type. (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), a neotropical genus with numerous endemic species. Greatest species richness is found in Central and Southern Brazil, with 41 of the 46 species described. The study was conducted across seven areas of savanna in the Amazon Estuary, within which 160 subplots of 1 m² each were established within four 10 × 100 m plots. Soil samples were collected at a depth of 0-20 cm. A total of 24 Poaceae species were recorded. Only two were common to all of the areas studied (Axonopus aureus P. Hasta ahora el binomio Cortaderia atacamensis ha sido considerado un sinónimo de C. jubata. Sin embargo, el estudio de los ejemplares tipo y de las descripciones originales, complementado con estudios de campo, demostraron que C. atacamensis es un sinónimo de C. speciosa (una especie nativa de las regiones desérticas desde Perú hasta el norte de la Argentina y Chile), distinta de C. jubata (una especie típica de los bosques andinos desde Colombia hasta el norte de la Argentina). Se presentan una caracterización morfológica y una clave para separar ambas especies.
