En nuestras costas del Ecuador son frecuentes las "aguas malas" que son organismos transparentes, difíciles de verlos en el agua, que al estar en contacto con el bañista, descargan unos aguijones con veneno (Chematocistos), produciendo un ardor intenso a la persona; también hay gusanos marinos y caracoles, en nuestras playas que pueden ser causa de mucha molestia y en ciertos casos puede ser fatal, dependiendo de la sensibilidad de cada persona a los venenos o toxinas que inyectan. Otro organismos que se vuelve sumamente peligroso cuando son molestados son las culebras marinas las cuales siempre las encontramos varadas en las playas.
