DIVERSIDAD DE MACROINVERTEBRADOS ASOCIADOS A ARRECIFES DE PHRAGMATOPOMA MOERCHI KINBERG, 1867 (POLYCHAETA: SABELLARIIDAE) EN EL INTERMAREAL ROCOSO DE COCHOLGÜE, CHILE Gayana
Sepúlveda,Roger D.; Moreno,Rodrigo A.; Carrasco,Franklin D..

Murina, V. V.; Kideys, А. Е.; Ustun, F.; Toklu, B..
The bathypelagic larvae of the polychaete, Vigtorniella zaikai, were found in the southern part of the Black Sea for the first time. The findings were made in the depths from 85 – 110 to 150 – 180 m at 14 stations. Maximum density (119 ind m-3) of the larvae was registered in suboxic zone (<10mM dissolved oxygen content, DOC), immediately above the hydrogen sulphide seawater layer. Vertical distribution of pelagic larvae of other polychaetes associated with V. zaikai was also studied. The deepest seawater layer adjoining redox zone was inhabited by V. zaikai, Protodrilus sp. and the larvae of Phyllodocidae gen. sp. These taxa compose the bathypelagic polychaetes fauna.

Análise filogenética de Questidae e Clitellata: o problema da parafilia de "Polychaeta" Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Garraffoni,André R. S.; Amorim,Dalton S..
Hypotheses about the phylogenetic relationships within Questidae, and the relationships of this taxon with Clitellata using parsimony analysis of 35 external and internal morphological characters of 36 terminal taxons are presented. The results show the position of Questidae within Scolecida and Clitellata. Within the Polychaeta, Clitellata is the sister group of the Questidae. The results also indicate that the Scolecida, Microdrilli, Polychaeta, Oligochaeta and Tubificidae are paraphyletic. Clitellata, Megadrilli, Questidae, Hirudinae are monophyletic.

Sousa,Lorena K. S.; Nogueira Júnior,Miodeli; Cutrim,Marco V. J.; Oliveira,Verônica M. de.
ABSTRACT The family Cossuridae is monogeneric for Cossura Webster & Benedict, 1887 which currently has 28 known species, three of which already recorded for Brazilian coast. In the present study we describe Cossura yacy sp. nov. increasing to 29 the number of known Cossuridae species. We have found and analyzed 60 individuals of C. yacy sp. nov. from São Marcos estuarine complex (ca. 02°S; 44°W) around São Luís Harbor (Maranhão, Brazil). It differs from other species of genus also by the presence of the two pairs of nuchal organs at lateral margins of the peristomium, branchial filament in the median region of the third chaetiger and by short and long capillary smooth chaetae with spinulosa on the distal half. These two chaetal types are present...

Sewage impact on the composition and distribution of Polychaeta associated to intertidal mussel beds of the Mar del Plata rocky shore, Argentina Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Elías,Rodolfo; Rivero,María Silvia; Vallarino,Eduardo Alberto.
The polychaete composition and distribution within mussel beds were studied in order to assess organic pollution due to domestic sewage in a rocky shore of Mar del Plata (Argentina) during 1997. Four stations and a control site were randomly sampled around the local effluent. Quantitative data on polychaetes, as well as sediment accumulated among mussels and its organic carbon content were measured. Polychaete distribution patterns are related to the organic matter gradient, being Capitella cf. capitata, Neanthes succinea (Frey & Leuckart, 1847) and Boccardia polybranchia (Haswell, 1885) the dominant indicator species close to the effluent. At medial distances, the cirratulids Caulleriella alata (Southern, 1914) and Cirratulus cirratus (Müller,...

Ecosystemes benthiques profonds et chimiosynthese bacterienne: Sources hydrothermales et suintements ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien.
Hydrothermal communities of various species compositions have been described from the eastern and western Pacific and Atlantic. Brine and cold seeps and hydrocarbon seepages have been found off Florida, off the Oregon and Japanese subduction systems, on the Laurentian Fan, near Barbados, and off Louisiana. Biomasses range from 10 to 70 kg/m super(2), fresh weight. Basic microdistribution of species groups in aureoles centered around hydrothermal vents reveals different levels of adaptation to harsh physico-chemical conditions. Two groups of primary producers can be recognized: a highly efficient cool water group with large vestimentiferan tube worms and bivalves, and alvinellid polychaetes adapted to hot waters. Both groups are exploited by specific...

Habitat heterogeneity influences cold-seep macrofaunal communities within and among seeps along the Norwegian margin. Part 1: macrofaunal community structure ArchiMer
Decker, Carole; Morineaux, Marie; Van Gaever, Saskia; Caprais, Jean-claude; Lichtschlag, Anna; Gauthier, Olivier; Andersen, Ann C.; Olu, Karine.
Håkon Mosby mud volcano (HMMV) is one of the most active and most studied seep sites in European waters. Many authors have described its thermal activity, dynamic of mud flows, and geochemical and microbial processes. It is characterised by a concentric zonation of successive biogenic habitats related to an activity and geochemical gradient from its centre to its periphery. Around the central area covered by mud flows, white and grey microbial mats occur among areas of bare sediment, whereas siboglinid tubeworm fields of Sclerolinum contortum and/or Oligobrachia haakonmosbiensis colonise the peripheral areas. The meiofaunal community is known to be structured among habitats, but the macrofauna has rarely been investigated and has never been sampled in...

New genera and species from the Equatorial Pacific provide phylogenetic insights into deep-sea Polynoidae (Annelida) ArchiMer
Bonifacio, Paulo; Menot, Lenaick.
Polynoidae contains ~900 species within 18 subfamilies, some of them restricted to the deep sea. Macellicephalinae is the most diverse among these deep-sea subfamilies. In the abyssal Equatorial Pacific Ocean, the biodiversity of benthic communities is at stake in the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone (CCFZ) owing to increased industrial interest in polymetallic nodules. The records of polychaetes in this region are scarce. Data gathered during the JPI Oceans cruise SO239 made a significant contribution to fill this gap, with five different localities sampled between 4000 and 5000 m depth. Benthic samples collected using an epibenthic sledge or a remotely operated vehicle resulted in a large collection of polynoids. The aims of this study are as follows:...

Macrofauna are an abundant and diverse component of abyssal benthic communities and are likely to be heavily impacted by polymetallic nodule mining in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ). In 2012, the International Seabed Authority (ISA) used available benthic biodiversity data and environmental proxies to establish nine no-mining areas, called Areas of Particular Environmental Interest (APEIs) in the CCZ. The APEIs were intended as a representative system of protected areas to safeguard biodiversity and ecosystem function across the region from mining impacts. Since 2012, a number of research programs have collected additional ecological baseline data from the CCZ. We assemble and analyze macrofaunal biodiversity data sets from eight studies, focusing on...

Renewal and accumulation of a Lanice conchilega (Pallas) population in the bale des Veys, western Bay of Seine ArchiMer
Ropert, Michel; Dauvin, Jean-claude.
Since the mid-1980s, an increase in abundance of the annelid polychaete Lanice conchilega (Pallas) (Annelida: Polychacta, Terebellidae) has been observed in the Bay des Veys (western Bay of Seine). The first particularity of this population is that it is strictly limited to the eastern side of the bay, in an oyster aquaculture area. Its proliferation (over 7 000 ind.m(-2)) has had a significant impact on the local aquaculture. Several studies have been carried out since 1993; monthly monitoring of population densities and size structure has demonstrated the lack of significant juvenile recruitment between 1993 and 1996. In terms of geographical occupation, maps of population spatial distributions were drawn in 1995 and 1998. They showed an increase in...

Infestation des coquilles d'huîtres Crassostrea gigas par les polydores en Basse-Normandie: recommandations et mise au point d'un traitement pour réduire cette nuisance. ArchiMer
Ruellet, Thierry.
Polydorid species form a complex of 157 Spionidae. Among them, Boccardia polybranchia, Boccardia semibranchita, Polydora ciliata and Polydora hoplura regularly colonize oysters cultivated in Normandy. Only one tenth of the populations survives more than one year. Recruits observed on the East coast of Cotentin come from the rocky calcareous flatness of Calvados. Their reproduction is spread out over all the year but winter recruitment is more prejudicial for oysters. Deepest area are more infested. Polydorids create mudblisters which cause a bad marketing of the oyster production. In order to reduce this harmful effect, it is possible to shift the setting of the oyster towards the end of March, to transfer oysters towards other areas during the peak of...

Structure of the artificial hard substrate assemblages in ports in Thermaikos Gulf (North Aegean Sea) ArchiMer
Karalis, P; Antoniadou, C; Chintiroglou, C.
The present study describes the hard substrate assemblages established on the concrete blocks of three ports placed in gradually longer distances from the main source of pollution in Thermaikos Gulf. The samplings were performed on a seasonal basis for a 2-year period. The data analysis indicates a clear separation of the assemblages from each port. Evenness and Shannon-Weaver diversity indices were calculated and their values were found to be quite high. This fact, combined with the seasonal pattern that these assemblages hold, reveals stability and a good adaptation of their faunistic components to local environmental conditions. A change due to the construction of a new block functioning as a surge barrier was detectable at the station of N. Michaniona....
