VARIAÇÃO DO NÍVEL GERAL DE PREÇOS DE HORTIFRUTIGRANJEIROS COMERCIALIZADOS NO CEASA-GO AgEcon
Machado, Andre Grossi; Figueiredo, Reginaldo Santana.

Determinants of Market Prices of Cattle in Eastern Ethiopia AgEcon
Adugna, Teressa.
This study has attempted to identify determinants of cattle price per kilogram live weight using a log-linear regression model. The estimated model explains about 48% of the variation in market prices of cattle. Price per kilogram live weight of cattle increases with animal characteristics such as age, live weight and grade. Type of sellers, buyers' purposes, festivals, time of transaction and a time trend are also important variables in affecting cattle prices. Farmers tend to sell their animals at price discounts as compared to trader sellers. Cattle sellers suffer from price discounts in selling to buyers with business purposes in comparison to selling to ultimate consumers. Sellers tend to benefit from animal sales during festivals, as they tend to...

Precision Feeding in Dairy Ration Cost Minimization Under Producer's Risk Management AgEcon
Salim, Juma K.; Dillon, Carl R..
The biophysical simulation data from Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System were used in non-linear programming model for least cost ration incorporating ingredient nutrient and price variations. Precision feeding practice indicated to have lower mean cost ration than whole herd feeding in terms of ration cost.

Do Sales Matter? Evidence from UK Food Retailing AgEcon
Lloyd, Tim A.; Morgan, C. Wyn; McCorriston, Steve; Zgovu, Evious.
This paper assesses the role of sales as a feature of price dynamics using scanner data. The study analyses a unique, high frequency panel of supermarket prices consisting of over 230,000 weekly price observations on around 500 products in 15 categories of food stocked by the UK’s seven largest retail chains. In all, 1,700 weekly time series are available at the barcode-specific level including branded and own-label products. The data allows the frequency, magnitude and duration of sales to be analysed in greater detail than has hitherto been possible with UK data. The main results are: (i) sales are a key feature of aggregate price variation with around 40 per cent of price variation being accounted for by sales once price differences for each UPC level...

How Much Lower Are Prices at Discount Stores? An Examination of Retail Food Prices AgEcon
Leibtag, Ephraim S.; Barker, Catherine; Dutko, Paula.
Nontraditional stores, including mass merchandisers, supercenters, club warehouse stores, and dollar stores, have increased their food offerings over the past 15 years and often promote themselves as lower priced alternatives to traditional supermarkets. How much lower are food prices at these stores? In order to better understand nontraditional stores’ impact on the cost of food, ERS analysts evaluate food price differences between nontraditional and traditional stores at the national and market level using 2004-06 Nielsen Homescan data. Findings show that nontraditional retailers offer lower prices than traditional stores even after controlling for brand and package size. Comparisons of identical items, at the Universal Product Code (UPC) level, show an...

Decoupling and prices: determinant of dairy farmers’ choices? A model to analyse impacts of the 2003 CAP reform AgEcon
Lelyon, Baptiste; Daniel, Karine; Chatellier, Vincent.
The reform of European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in 2003 has resulted in substantial changes to the attribution of subsidies to dairy farmers. Moreover, dairy farmers are in also facing an unprecedented situation on the markets with the soaring prices of agricultural raw materials: they sell their products at a higher price (milk, meat and cereals), but must also cope with the increasing prices of concentrates. In this paper1, we discuss cross effects, on the productive strategy of French dairy farms, of the Luxemburg Agreement and the prices variations. A model based on mathematical programming has been privileged to determine how dairy farmers might re-evaluate their systems to identify optimal production plan. While respecting the principle of...
