"Co-Operative Identity" - A Theoretical Concept for Dynamic Analysis of Practical Co-Operation: The Dutch Case AgEcon
Szabo, Gabor G..
The "concept of the co-operative identity" (consisting from the definition, aims and functions of cooperatives and the so-termed co-operative principles) serves as a general theoretical background for the economic analysis of agricultural co-operation. The development of Dutch dairy co-operatives is used as a case study example, which suitably illustrates and represents the processes taking place in the European Union. Some suggestions for further research on the co-operative identity according to each country and different branches and sectors in order to see the substance of co-operation from different economic and non-economic aspects are proposed.

The importance and role of trust in agricultural marketing co-operatives AgEcon
Szabo, Gabor G..
Marketing co-operatives can strengthen countervailing power of producers and help to co-ordinate (agricultural) supply chains. According to many authors, one of the means of increasing the competitiveness of co-ops can be traced back to trust and informal connections existing between the members and the cooperative (management), as well as among the members. Using New Institutional Economics’ theories and the “co-operative identity” concept as theoretical background, this review paper analyses the importance of trust, as well as the role of the co-operative principles as formal-legal securities of trust (development) in agricultural marketing co-operatives.

On-farm broiler welfare assessment and associated training Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Butterworth,A.
Around the world, people who care for animals as stock keepers, stockmen, farmers, producers are placed in a position where they can greatly influence the quality of life of the animals they manage. This is particularly true in broiler chickens, where large numbers of animals can be cared for by comparatively small numbers of people. There is an international progression to start to assess poultry welfare on farm by looking at the animals themselves using (Animal Based Measures ABMs) rather than by looking exclusively at the resources provided (space, light heat, litter material - Resource Based Measures RBM's). In general, the areas being assessed are: Are the animals properly fed and supplied with water? Are the animals properly housed? Are the animals...
