| Beet root planting methods and the most appropriated type of trays for the production of beet-root seedlings, Beta vulgaris var. conditiva (Chenopodiaceae) are analyzed. Experiment evaluated characteristics of seedling growth and production. Treatments consisted of direct sowing, bare-root seedlings and seedlings grown on 128, 200 and 288-cell trays. Cells with the smallest substratum volumes showed an inferior performance in number of leaves and dry matter weight of the seedlings' aerial part. However, no effect of the substratum volume was reported in the root development.
