International Quota Transfer and Intermediate Goods AgEcon
Aldanondo, Ana Maria; Puertolas, Javier.
In this paper we use a general equilibrium model to examine the effects of international quota transfer when a quota restricts world commodity production whilst the trade in an intermediate good is not regulated. The analysis shows that, when the quota regime is not internationally transferable, intermediate input trade substitutes for final good trade. In these circumstances, the distortions are lower than expected. International quota transfer increases world welfare proportionally to quota rent gap. Welfare distribution is also conditioned by commodity terms of trade and, particularly, by the outcome of the intermediate good price.

Production Response to Increased Imports: The Case of U.S. Sugar AgEcon
Kennedy, P. Lynn; Schmitz, Andrew.
This paper considers how the welfare of U.S. sugar producers can be affected by the use of production controls in the presence of rising sugar imports and falling sugar prices, taking into account the negative externalities associated with U.S. sugar production. Even if production controls are used, producer welfare can be affected negatively under rising imports.

Relationships between Agricultural policies and Environmental Effects in Japan: An Environmental-Economic Integrated Model Approach AgEcon
Sasaki, Hiroki.
This study investigates the optimal agricultural land use allocation and nitrogen application to a representative Japanese farm. The site-specific nature of numerous agri-environmental issues necessitates analysis at a disaggregated level in order to capture the underlying heterogeneity of agricultural productivity and environmental sensitivity across different parcels of land. This study adopts an integrated approach—a decision-making economic model for representative farms is combined with a stylized site-specific biophysical model, which quantifies the impact of different policy instruments on agricultural production practices and on multiple environmental effects. This model estimates the government budget outlays and social welfare, which require...
