Ramos, Joao Paulo de Farias; Sousa, Wandrick Hauss de; Cavalcante, Iara Tamires Rodrigues; Oliveira, Juliana Silva; Santos, Edson Mauro; Pimenta Filho, Edgard Cavalcanti; Freitas, Fabianna Fortuna de; Leite, Ricardo Miranda.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of multinutritional blocks (BMs) associated with the concentrate content in the diet of lactating goats and their effects on milk production and economic viability. Eight goats Parda Alpina, multiparas were distributed in two Latin squares (4x4). The experiment consisted of four treatments (0.971, 0.746, 0.521 and 0.296 kg concentrate day-1 per goat) and BMs ad libitum. It was evaluated the consumption, milk monitoring and the system was analyzed economically. If there was a significant effect of the concentrate, the control treatment was compared to the others using the Dunnett test and 5% regression analysis. When the concentrate contents were high in the diets, the total dry matter intake decreased...

A farm level assessment of the profitability of Entry Level Scheme participation in the Lincolnshire Wolds AgEcon
Harrison, George R.; Jones, James V.H..
The paper builds on the results of previous studies investigating whether farmers profit by participation in the Entry Level Scheme (ELS). Standard payment levels (derived from points) under ELS are fixed at rates that are expected only to compensate farmers for income foregone and costs incurred. There is no profit element as such. There is therefore no reason to expect participation to be profitable. However farm level examination of the income foregone and costs incurred in previous studies based in other parts of England have shown that this can be achieved. The study is based in the Lincolnshire Wolds, an area dominated by arable farming but with topography and associated natural features that offer some variety in the mix of farming and the measures...

Impacts of the Economic Reform Program on the Performance of the Egyptian Agricultural Sector AgEcon
Soliman, Ibrahim; Fabiosa, Jacinto F.; Gaber Amer, Mohamed; Kandil, Siham.
From 1986 to 2007 Egypt’s agricultural policy transitioned from a tightly controlled to a more liberalized regime. This study examines the impact of this change on the performance of the wheat (imported grain) and rice (exported grain) sectors. In terms of profitability, we found that the cost of production increased substantially in both grains, driven primarily by the rise in land rent and labor wage. But the wheat and rice sectors’ profitability did not suffer significantly, as advances in new seed technologies and adoption of better farm practices including farm mechanization increased yield and compensated for the higher cost. Considering market efficiency, we found that over the study period the farmer’s share of the consumer’s expenditure...
