In wet season, rainfed area in Lower Northern of Thailand has has an abundance of soil and water availability which is suitable for growing a photoperiod-sensitive rice with high yield potential. However, favorite rice varieties often have low yield and are susceptible to rice pests. Breeding for high yield and resistance to disease and insect pests while maintaining good eating quality is, therefore, the major approaches in changing rice varieties for good qualities, increased yield and adequate consumption. A promising lines, PSL97060-17-CNT-1-2-1, was obtained from three-way cross between KLG88028-22-1-2-2 and F1 of SPR88096-17-3-2-2 and IR60 at Phitsanulok Rice Research Center. Selection in F4-F6 was subsequently conducted at Chai Nat Rice Research...

KLG02008-19-2-4-3, an promising non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive rice line had been derived from a cross of KLG96001-3-1-2 and SPR90. The improved rice had been developed through the conventional breeding and selection method. The single cross hybridization had been made in 2002 at Klongluang Rice Research Center. An promising line has an erect and moderately strong clum with about 120 centimeters for transplanting and about 112 centimeters for seed broadcasting, 118 days maturity for transplanting and 114 days for seed broadcasting. Its grain yielding potential is up to 1,052 kilograms per rai or more under suitably good fertilizer and cultural practice. The interstation yield trail in wet season 2010 obtained and average grain yield of...

CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 was a short-growth duration rice variety which was suitable for irrigated area encountered flooding in raining season. This rice variety derived from three–way cross of Suphanburi 1 /IR64//CNT86074-25-9-1. CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 had maturity short growth duration so that it could be early harvested at about 87 days after sowing in wet season and 96 days in dry season. It had recorded yield potential of 1,004 kg/rai with the average yields of 681 kg/rai, which was comparable with the RD41 (742 kg/ rai), but 2% higher than that of RD43 (666 kg./rai). Plant stature of this variety was 80 cm. in height. Its grain was long slender shape, 10.54 mm. in length and 2.70 mm. in width, with straw colored paddy. Its 1,000 grains weight...

KKN04023-NKI-14-2-6-1: ข้าวเหนียวไม่ไวต่อช่วงแสงสายพันธุ์ดีเด่นภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ Thai Agricultural
Somjai Saleeto.
Irrigated rice breeding project for Northeast Thailand was carried out to improve photoperiod insensitive glutinous rice variety for blast disease and gall midge resistant. The selected promising line; KKN04023-NKI-14-2-6-1, was finally obtained. The promising line was selected from the population of the cross between PTT97100-B-116-3-3 and KKN97031-NKI-B-B-122-1-1 which PTT97100-B-116-3-3 was used as female parent and KKN97031-NKI-B-B-122-1-1 as male parent. This line is photoperiod insensitive glutinous rice. Its harvesting time is about 131 days after sowing, plant height was 120 cm. The average yield of this line grown in Rice Research Center paddy fields was 614 kg/rai and on farmers field was 684 kg/rai. Rice hull color was brown, grain length of...

การยอมรับของเกษตรกรต่อข้าวนาชลประทานสายพันธุ์ดีเด่นในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ Thai Agricultural
Jongjai Mapakhe.
This study aims to evaluate the farmers' preference to promising irrigated rice lines grown in farmers' fields in north eastern Thailand during wet season 2013. The preference analyses were carried out at 2 stages; at reproductive stage to evaluate for agronomic characteristics, and after harvest to evaluate for grain physical qualities and cooking qualities. Two sets of promising lines were evaluated; glutinous and non-glutinous set. At the reproductive stage, the preference analyses were carried out in 3 provinces. It was found that the glutinous cultivar RD10 and the non-glutinous line KKN01041-23-2-1-1 were the most preferred cultivar/line by farmers. The reasons for their preference were because of the following traits; strong stem, good tillering...
