| Das bundesweite Demonstrationsnetzwerk verfolgte für die erste Bewilligung (Zeitraum von 2015 bis 2018) das Ziel, die Ausweitung und Optimierung des Anbaus sowie die Verwertung (intern und extern) von Erbsen und Bohnen zu unterstützen. Dies sollte insbesondere durch einen Erfahrungs- und Wissenstransfer zwischen Forschung, Beratung, Praxis und anderen an Wertschöpfungsketten mit Erbsen und Bohnen beteiligten Akteuren erreicht werden. | This programme was developed within a cross-disciplinary approach resulting from five project proposals focusing on the organic wheat, flour and bread sector. More than 30 researchers from nine academic research laboratories, five technical centres, three development agencies and four industrial firms were involved in the project, covering a large area of expertise (from genetics to sociology). | The UK organic wheat crop, of about 15,000 hectares, is rarely able to consistently provide flour of suitable quality to meet the needs of the baking industry. As a result, more than 50% of the requirement for wheat in the organic bread market is imported. This project seeks to address the constraints to the expansion of the market for organic bread produced from wheat grown in the UK. This will be achieved by identifying the effect of agronomic practices on the protein content and quality of organic wheat.
