Clinical utility of a life quality score in dogs with canine transmissible venereal tumor treated by vincristine chemotherapy Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Valladão,M.L.; Scarpelli,K.C.; Metze,K..
The clinical utility of a life quality score during vincristine chemotherapy of dogs with canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) was investigated using 93 tumor-bearing dogs in this prospective study. At diagnosis, clinical data and the performance status were evaluated according to a modified Karnofsky score (CKS) adapted for dogs. The animals were treated with vincristine sulphate (0.025mg/kg) at weekly intervals until the tumor had macroscopically disappeared. The time until the first adverse event and death were recorded. In a pilot study, CKS revealed a high inter-observer concordance (kappa=0.735; weighted kappa=0.835). CKS permitted a detailed monitoring of adverse effects during therapy. Cox regressions showed that low performance score and...

International and Brazilian Versions of WHOQOL-DIS: (in)adequacy to its Underpinnings BABT
Cantorani,José Roberto Herrera; Pedroso,Bruno; Vargas,Leandro Martinez; Picinin,Claudia Tania; Pilatti,Luiz Alberto; Gutierrez,Gustavo Luis.
Abstract: The present article aims to analyze the WHOQOL-DIS (World Health Organization Quality of Life - Disabilities) structure to verify this instrument’s adequacy to the theoretical principles underlying its construction. The methodology consists in an analysis of the WHOQOL-DIS underlying theory, prompting questions about the adequacies of this theoretical model. The procedure is complemented by a syntax analysis in order to verify the relevant questions for the score calculation. The obtained results show that the subjects “participation” and “autonomy” are not objectively present in the international version, although they are considered in the theories as justifying elements for the instrument’s creation. In the Brazilian version, there are...

Quality of life and adherence to treatment in early-treated Brazilian phenylketonuria pediatric patients BJMBR
Vieira Neto,E.; Maia Filho,H.S.; Monteiro,C.B.; Carvalho,L.M.; Tonon,T.; Vanz,A.P.; Schwartz,I.V.D.; Ribeiro,M.G..
Early dietary treatment of phenylketonuria (PKU), an inborn error of phenylalanine (Phe) metabolism, results in normal cognitive development. Although health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of PKU patients has been reported as unaffected in high-income countries, there are scarce data concerning HRQoL and adherence to treatment of PKU children and adolescents from Brazil. The present study compared HRQoL scores in core dimensions of Brazilian early-treated PKU pediatric patients with those of a reference population, and explored possible relationships between adherence to treatment and HRQoL. Early-treated PKU pediatric patient HRQoL was evaluated by self- and parent-proxy reports of the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) core scales. Adherence...
