Fish aggreagating devices (FAD), "semi-heavy" models, have been anchored all around La Réunion Island since 1988. For maximising profits derived from them, "light" FAD less expensive have been designed and locally unused fishing gears were tried. Reproduction of sea turtles primarily relies on body reserves stored during the time spent on foraging grounds prior to the nesting season. Accordingly, the investigation of foraging behaviour of sea turtles is critical for better assessing their biology but also for conservation issues of these endangered species. Sea turtles contribute significantly to the consuming biomass of their ecosystem and hence to its functioning, thus providing natural indications of the health of the ecosystem. Yet the trophic ecology of sea turtles is poorly documented because their feeding grounds remain poorly known and for most of them hardly accessible. Contrary to the situation in Europe, Réunion Island is the only French department whose fishing has increased considerably for five years, as far as artisanal fishing linked to DCPs (Fish Concentration Plans), but also semi-industrial longline fishing and industrial fishing in southern oceans are concerned. Two capital events contribute to the quick development of tuna fishing and provide Reunion Island with access to its pelagic resources. The setting up in 1988 of the first DCPs by the French Research institute for the exploitation of the sea (Ifremer) resulted in a real upheaval of artisanal fishery and relaunched a sector which had been slowing down since 1980. Projet "HYDRORUN" : Etat d'avancement du projet Ifremer-OIHYDRORUN. Première année (2010) ArchiMer

La phase opérationnelle du projet HYDRORUN, initié fin 2009, a débuté en avril 2010. A l'échéance de fin 2012, HYDRORUN devrait proposer aux décideurs et aux acteurs du littoral Réunionnais de nouveaux outils d'aide à la décision en matière de préservation et de gestion de la qualité des eaux littorales. Ces outils reposent sur une plate-forme de modélisation hydrodynamique centrée sur 6 modèles mars 3d, à mailles de 100 m, couvrant l'ensemble du littoral de l'île de La Réunion. Au terme de la première année du projet, le travail réalisé avec les différents partenaires du projet est présenté. Les emprises des modèles locaux ont été définies. Re-shaping Mallotus [Part 1]: Expanded circumscription and revision of the genus Cordemoya (Euphorbiaceae) Naturalis

A recent phylogenetic study based on DNA sequence data detected a well-supported clade of a number of Mallotus species together with the genus Cordemoya. This clade is distinct from the large Mallotus s.s. clade. In this paper, Cordemoya (formerly monotypic with C. integrifolia from the Mascarene Islands) is expanded with sixteen additional species previously assigned to Mallotus. Taxa transferred to Cordemoya are: Mallotus sections Hancea and Oliganthae from Asia and M. baillonianus, M. capuronii, and M. spinulosus from Madagascar.
