Taxonomy and multi-gene phylogeny of Datronia (Polyporales, Basidiomycota Naturalis
Li, H.J.; Cui, B.K.; Dai, Y.C..
Taxonomic and phylogenetic studies on Datronia were carried out. Phylogeny based on ITS, nLSU and RBP2 regions revealed that Datronia in current sense includes species belonging to three distantly related clades in polypores. The Datronia in a restricted sense is proposed for the clade including the type species D. mollis and D. stereoides. Neodatronia gen. nov. was proposed for two new resupinate species, N. gaoligongensis and N. sinensis. Species of Neodatronia differ from Datronia s.s. by their resupinate basidiomes, moderately to frequently branched skeletal hyphae in subiculum. Datroniella gen. nov., typified by D. scutellata was proposed for species in the other clade. Four new species of Datroniella, D. melanocarpa, D. subtropica, D. tibetica and D....

Molecular systematics of the cotton root rot pathogen, Phymatotrichopsis omnivora Naturalis
Marek, S.M.; Hansen, K.; Romanish, M.; Thorn, R.G..
Cotton root rot is an important soilborne disease of cotton and numerous dicot plants in the south-western United States and Mexico. The causal organism, Phymatotrichopsis omnivora (= Phymatotrichum omnivorum), is known only as an asexual, holoanamorphic (mitosporic) fungus, and produces conidia resembling those of Botrytis. Although the corticoid basidiomycetes Phanerochaete omnivora (Polyporales) and Sistotrema brinkmannii (Cantharellales; both Agaricomycetes) have been suggested as teleomorphs of Phymatotrichopsis omnivora, phylogenetic analyses of nuclear small- and large-subunit ribosomal DNA and subunit 2 of RNA polymerase II from multiple isolates indicate that it is neither a basidiomycete nor closely related to other species of Botrytis...

Novel Curvularia species from clinical specimens Naturalis
Madrid, H.; da Cunha, K.C.; Gené, J.; Dijksterhuis, J.; Cano, J.; Sutton, D.A.; Guarro, J.; Crous, P.W..
The fungal genus Curvularia includes numerous plant pathogens and some emerging opportunistic pathogens of humans. In a previous study we used morphology and sequences of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) gene to identify species within a set of 99 clinical Curvularia isolates from the USA. Seventy-two isolates could be identified while the remaining 27 isolates belonged in three unclassified clades that were tentatively labelled Curvularia sp. I, II and III. In the present study, we further assess the taxonomic placement of these isolates using sequences of ITS, gpd, the large subunit rDNA, and the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. DNA sequence comparisons with a...
