| Resumo: O presente trabalho visa subsidiar ações voltadas à implementação do rafting no Parque Estadual Serra do Mar – Núcleo Santa Virgínia. Teve-se como principal objetivo a caracterização do percurso do rafting no rio Paraibuna para auxiliar no manejo desta atividade dentro da Unidade de Conservação. Para atingir este objetivo foram utilizadas fotografias aéreas ortorretificadas e georreferenciadas, cartas IGC 1:10.000, assim como, o Sistema de Informação Geográfica – SIG, software SPRING, pois tais instrumentos auxiliam nas análises de informações ao permitir a integração de dados de diferentes fontes de forma georreferenciada. | As far back as 1870, i.e., about 150 years ago, Jules Verne described the accumulation of debris in the convergence zone of the North Atlantic Ocean in his famous novel entitled “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea.” Many scientific reports have addressed this topic since and our main concern today is the ever increasing volume of marine litter invading the oceans in various and complex ways.
