Megalotomus parvus West. (Hemiptera: Alydidae): inseto adequado para experimentação e didática entomológica Anais da SEB
Ventura,Maurício U.; Panizzi,Antônio R..
Megalotomus parvus West. is a neotropical alydid very common and abundant in northern Paraná State (23º 11' S latitude, 51º 11' W longitude). A colony of this bug was maintained in the laboratory for successive generations. Nymphs and adults were reared in plastic boxes (12,0 x 12, 0 x 3,8 cm) lined with filter paper, using mature seeds of pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan plus water (imbibed cotton). The easiness of which M. parvus was reared in the laboratory allow to suggest the use of this bug for research and teaching purposes.

Nictemeral variations for pacu Caranha, Piaractus mesopotamicus (Holmberg, 1887) culture in single - phase BABT
Barreto,Luiz Eduardo Guimarães de Sá; Igarashi,Marco Antonio; Hayashi,Carmino.
Studies related to nictemeral variation were executed in a fish growing pond, during all the seasons of the year, collecting data for dissolved oxygen; temperature; pH and electrical conductivity at the feeding channel on pond's surface, bottom and at streamlet bed. The results showed that Autumn was the season which had the lowest values of water temperature, the interval points, during Spring time, had superior average values of temperature when compared to the ones that were observed at external points. The lowest and highest index of pH were during Autumn season. The electrical conductivity didn't show significant differences during Autumn season. The samples obtained from the streamlet had very high significant differences with the samples of fish...

USING SOUNDS PRODUCED BY PIGS TO IDENTIFY THERMONEUTRALITY ZONES FOR THERMAL ENVIRONMENT ASSESSMENT RATIOS REA
Amaral,Pedro I. S.; Campos,Alessandro T.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Cecchin,Daiane; Leite,Evandro M.; Dias e Silva,Nhayandra C..
ABSTRACT Although dry bulb temperature (T) is the environmental variable most commonly used to classify thermal comfort in pigs, environmental assessment ratios provide more accurate information. The objective of this study was to correlate the sound pressure levels (SPL) produced by piglet vocalization with the thermal environment observed during the nursery phase, and subsequently establish thermoneutrality ranges. The experiment was conducted on a pig farm where T, relative humidity (RH), and SPL data were recorded between 9 am-5 pm for 42 days. The association between SPL and T in nursery phase piglets was verified; for thermal comfort to be possible, SPLs were 56.3 to 60.3 dB. The SPLs were subsequently used in predictor equations of ratios, and...

Elevage intensif du loup Dicentrarchus labrax ArchiMer
Coves, Denis; Gasset, Eric.
Different seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) intensiv rearing technics have been experimented in the pilot scale unit of our laboratory. During these upscalfing operation, the results obtained allow us to compare costs related to each fingemng production method. Closed system combined with early weaning with an efficient micropellet saves at least 69 % of direct production costs by comparison with an open system with Arternia during larval phase. However if closed systems are commonly used by private hatcheries, larval micropellets are always at experimental step.

Contribution a l'etude de l'elevage de la crevette rose Palaemon serratus (Pennant) en captivite. ArchiMer
Campillo, Albert.
The growth of post-larval P. serratus has been studied until the appearance of secondary sexual characters, in order to eliminate the influence of sex ratio on the mean wt. The influence of temp on intermolt period and number of molts was observed in male and female kept individually. Different sorts of food of natural origin have been tested. The rearing of post-larval lots metamorphosed at different times of the yr showed that the growth of P. serratus is conditioned not only by the temp, but also by the season. The food conversion ratio was defined in relation to the sex and age of the prawns. Shelters allowed the author to obtain a ratio of survival which varied post-larvae per square meter. The sex ratio established from several breedings as soon as...

Influence du taux de proteines sur la croissance ponderale de Palaemon serratus (Pennant) elevee au laboratoire ArchiMer
Campillo, Albert; Luquet, P..
The quantitiative requirements for protein have been determined in P. serratus reared from the post-larval stage to the 4th month. It appears that the apparent optimum percentage of protein in the diet is a minimum of 60%. At the 8th month, the mean wt of prawn reared with the best artificial diet (diet IV) is only 49% of the wt of shrimp reared with the digestive gland of Patella as a diet. The prawns reared to 4th month on a low-protein diet then reared on a natural diet until the 8th month, show important compensatory growth. However, the prawns do not achieve the wt of the control population, their average wt representing only 16% of the controls.

Traditional oyster culture in France ArchiMer
Heral, Maurice.
The indigenous oyster of mainland France, the fiat oyster, Ostrea edulis has been part of the human diet for centuries. The Romans collected them and exported them to Rome. Although tanks for holding oysters after harvesting were in use at that time (GreIon 1978) it seems that true culture was not developed along the coast contrary to the records of Pliny the Older. It appears that oysters were already being captured on hoards off the Italian coast. The exploitation of natural stocks continued through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. However, it was not until the 17th century that oyster culture began, first in the pools of the salt marshes of the Atlantic coast and then in specially managed ponds. Papy (1941) repeats a good description given in 1688...

Etude de la Sensibilite Thermique des Larves du Crustace Decapode : Palaemon Serratus (Pennant). ArchiMer
The whole of experiments carried on from thermal constraints on the larval development of Palaemon serratus allows the following observations: -individual rearings obtain the best survival rates in the witness groups and neutralize by a dense food and the absence of intraspecific cannibalism, factors which can interfere with the results ascribed only to the experiments; - slight thermal increases (10 and 12 degree C) do not involve secondary effects on the post larvae when the development is realized at 20 degree C; - if the TL 50 is reaching 34 degree C, letal effects are observed, as soon as the final temperature; - whatever is the temperature increase, the relation = mortality/temperature reached is similar and this factor mortalities observed, that...

Anatomy and physiology of digestive tract of crustaceans decapods reared in aquaculture ArchiMer
Ceccaldi, H.
The digestive tract of crustacea is complex. It is composed of a shor t oesophagum, a stomach with two bags, and internal wall with appendags specialized in grinding of feeds. These hard mastication pieces represent the gastric mill. Setae, filters included in the stomach structure allow the separation between food particles and liquid compounds. Those one are coming over through filters and more on to the digestive gland tubules or mid gut gland. In this organ, several types of cells play specialized functions: absorption, enzyme secretion, stocking function. Some cells of a new type, with undefined function, may be neurosecretions function, have been described recently. The end of tubules of digestive gland exhibits cells with embryonic characteristics....

Ascophrys rodor (Campillo and Deroux) parasite of the reared common prawn P. serratus). ArchiMer
Deroux, G.; Campillo, Albert; Bradbury, Ph. C..
A disease whose severity seems directly bound to conditions of cultivation can cause a heavy mortality in the common prawn Palaemon serratus (Pennant) at molting. The causative agent, A. rodor, is a ciliate, a common external parasite whose life cycle is adapted to the molting cycle of the shrimp. The principal factors favorable to the development of the parasite were studied: age of the host, water temp, numbers of shrimps as a function of the quantity of water and its renewal. The sp A. rodor, although related to the Conidophryidae, Kirby, 1941 (1936) has significant differences (1) in its ethology (it feeds on the exoskeleton without penetrating to its hosts' tissues), (2) in its vegetative multiplication (tomitogenesis combines the cortical...

Influence of turbulence and turbidity on growth and survival of laboratory-reared bivalve larvae ArchiMer
Seaman, Matthias; His, Edouard; Keskin, Mehmet; Reins, Torsten.
Laboratory-reared larvae of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis ) were incubated with and without sediment in a novel turbulence-producing machine. The sediments used were fine silt from the Gironde Estuary and from the German Wadden Sea. Larvae incubated in turbulence without sediment, and in suspended sediment concentrations similar to in situ conditions had growth rates which did not vary significantly from those of the controls. The growth rates of larvae incubated in 5 to 20 g/l of sediment were reduced by 20 to 50%. Survival was lower in larvae incubated with sediments than in turbulent and non-turbulent controls, but it was not correlated with sediment concentration. The results indicate that the mechanical effects of turbulence and turbidity on...
