Development of a hydrodynamic model of the Bay of Biscay. Validation of hydrology ArchiMer
Lazure, Pascal; Garnier, Valerie; Dumas, Franck; Herry, Christelle; Chifflet, Marina.
The hydrology of the Bay of Biscay was investigated using the regional ocean model MARS3D (Model for Application at Regional Scale). The simulated hydrology is compared to a set of various data encompassing monthly climatology, remote sensing SST CTD casts, and coastal salinity measurements. Special focus was put on the validation over the continental shelf. This paper reports that despite some misfits, the climatological hydrology and its seasonal variability are correctly simulated. Various statistics computed over the period from 1999-2004 highlight different aspects of the hydrology. The biases and root mean square errors (RMSE) remain very weak at all depths when comparing salinity (< 0.1 and < 0.6psu respectively). The predicted temperature...

Small-scale variability of the current in the Strait of Bonifacio ArchiMer
Gerigny, Olivia; Coudray, Sylvain; Lapucci, Chiara; Tomasino, Corinne; Bisgambiglia, Paul-antoine; Galgani, Francois.
Current dynamics in the Strait of Bonifacio (south Corsica) were investigated at a small scale during the STELLAMARE1 multidisciplinary cruise in summer 2012, using in situ measurements and modeling data. The Strait of Bonifacio is a particularly sensitive marine area in which specific conservation measures have been taken to preserve the natural environment and wild species. Good knowledge of the hydrodynamics in this area is essential to optimize the Marine Protected Area's management rules. Therefore, we used a high-resolution model (400 m) based on the MARS3D code to investigate the main flux exchanges and to formulate certain hypotheses about the formation of possible eddy structures. The aim of the present paper is first to synthetize the results...

PRESSURE FACTORS AFFECTING LOMBARDY AGRICULTURAL SYSTEM: THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE FISCHLER REFORM AgEcon
Bulgheroni, Claudia; Sali, Guido.
This paper presents a regional model, based on Positive Mathematical Programming, which aims to evaluate the consequences of Fischler reform on the agricultural sector of the Lombardy irrigated lowland (Northern Italy). The model main focus is to quantify the agricultural land use changes due to the farmers reaction to the CAP reform main issues, such as single payment, and to simulate possible scenarios for the future. The model takes into account also the Water Frame Directive principles, in order to combine the assessment of both CAP issues and the potential irrigation water supplies reduction, which could deeply affect the area. The model input are obtained by means of the integration between FADN and SIARL (Agricultural Information System of Lombardy...

Development, Testing and Application of ACRE: An Agro-Economic Production Model on Regional Level AgEcon
Henseler, Martin; Wirsig, Alexander; Krimly, Tatjana.
ACRE is an Agro-eConomic model for agricultural pRoduction on rEgional level. Based on an extension of Positive Mathematical Programming (PMP) this model was developed as a decision tool for politics with respect to questions of global change scenarios. The validity of the theoretical approach as well as the algorithms has been tested by calculations with empirical data. Currently, ACRE is applied in large interdisciplinary projects. This paper introduces the development of ACRE, from the theoretical framework to testing its validity and current application.

Impact of CAP reform on agricultural production in the German federal state Baden-Wurttemberg: Scenario calculations with the regional model ACRE AgEcon
Henseler, Martin; Krimly, Tatjana; Dabbert, Stephan.
ACRE is an Agro-eConomic model for agricultural pRoduction at rEgional level. Based on an extension of Positive Mathematical Programming (PMP) this model was developed as a decision tool for politics with respect to questions of global change- and political scenarios. ACRE was applied in two interdisciplinary projects for simulation of agricultural production in two German river basins. Currently, the model was extended to calculate agricultural production for the federal state Baden-Württemberg in South West Germany. This paper introduces the results of CAP scenario calculations with the regional model ACRE for Baden-Württemberg.

An Agro-Economic Production Model for a Middle European River Basin - First Results of CAP Reform Scenario Calculations AgEcon
Henseler, Martin; Krimly, Tatjana; Wirsig, Alexander.
ACRE is an Agro-eConomic model for agricultural pRoduction on rEgional level. Based on an extension of Positive Mathematical Programming (PMP) this model was developed as a decision tool for politics with respect to questions of global change- and political scenarios. Currently, ACRE is applied in the RIVERTWIN-Neckar project and politic scenarios of the CAP reform 2003 were calculated. This paper introduces ACRE, its theoretical framework, and the first results of political scenario calculations, which where done for the Neckar river basin.

The influence of climate change, technological progress and political change on agricultural land use: calculated scenarios for the Upper Danube catchment area AgEcon
Henseler, Martin; Wirsig, Alexander; Krimly, Tatjana; Dabbert, Stephan.
Both climate and agricultural policy changes are commonly seen as important drivers for agricultural production. In this study, scenarios of climate and political change were calculated for the Upper Danube catchment area using the regional optimization model ACRE. Two political scenarios were calculated for the year 2020. One scenario assumes the continuation of the Common Agricultural Policy reform 2003 the other assumes a strong shift away from payments of the first pillar to payments of the second pillar of the CAP. Both scenarios were combined with four different scenarios of climate change and technological progress derived from ICCP SRES assumptions and the ACCELERATES project. The results of the scenario calculations were analysed with respect to...

Economic Impact of Rural Development Plan 2007 2013 in Tuscany AgEcon
Felici, F.; Paniccia, R.; Rocchi, Benedetto.
In 2007 in every European Union region, involved in the planning of Rural Development Plan (RDP), an independent evaluator should asses the impact of the plan in term of value added and productivity. Each region has adopted different methodologies but few of them have followed the indications of Common and Monitoring Evaluation Framework (CMEF) to evaluate the net value deriving by direct and indirect effect. IRPET, the Independent evaluator of Tuscany, utilising REMI-IRPET model has assed the impact of RDP on the main economic variables until 2020. Among 30 different measures it has been chosen only 5 of them that cover more than 54% of total amount of public and private investments. The economic impacts are also evaluated at provincial level.
