Redundant variables and the quality of management zones REA
Ricardo,Sobjak; Souza,Eduardo G. de; Bazzi,Claudio L.; Uribe-Opazo,Miguel A.; Betzek,Nelson M..
ABSTRACT Precision agriculture (PA) allows farmers to identify and address variations in an agriculture field. Management zones (MZs) make PA more feasible and economical. The most important method for defining MZs is a fuzzy C-means algorithm, but selecting the variable for use as the input layer in the fuzzy process is problematic. BAZZI et al. (2013) used Moran’s bivariate spatial autocorrelation statistic to identify variables that are spatially correlated with yield while employing spatial autocorrelation. BAZZI et al. (2013) proposed that all redundant variables be eliminated and that the remaining variables would be considered appropriate on the MZ generation process. Thus, the objective of this work, a study case, was to test the hypothesis that...

PRODUCTIVITY GROWTH IN THE CARIBBEAN: A MEASURE OF KEY COMPONENTS AgEcon
Hutchinson, Sharon D.; Langham, Max R..
Productivity growth is decomposed into two components: technical change and efficiency change. This assesses their relative importance to the international competitiveness of the agricultural sectors of selected Caribbean countries. A nonparametric programming method is employed to compute Malmquist multifactor productivity indexes, which contrasts the innovation of races of these countries. Keywords: Multifactor productivity, Malmquist indexes, Caribbean agriculture, Relative efficiency, Technical efficiency
Tipo: Conference Paper or Presentation Palavras-chave: Multifactor productivity; Malmquist indexes; Caribbean agriculture; Relative efficiency; Technical efficiency; Productivity Analysis; Research Methods/ Statistical Methods.

Genetic evaluation for egg mass in partial periods and complete period in meat quails R. Bras. Zootec.
Ribeiro,Jeferson Corrêa; Silva,Luciano Pinheiro da; Sousa,Mariele Freitas; Leite,Carla Daniela Suguimoto; Bonafé,Cristina Moreira; Caetano,Giovani da Costa; Crispim,Aline Camporez; Torres,Robledo de Almeida.
The objective of this study was to obtain estimates of genetic and phenotypic parameters for egg mass of meat quails and also to propose an optimal age for selection of birds through the egg mass. The data used in this study came from 3,503 female meat quails (UFV1: 1.811 quails; UFV2: 1.692 quails) of the Poultry Breeding Program from Universidade Federal de Viçosa. The traits examined were egg mass in partial periods until 77, 112, 147 and 182 days, and egg mass in the total period of 407 days by the use of single and bi-trait animal models. For the genetic group UFV1, the heritability values for the periods were high: 0.58, 0.59, 0.57, 0.59 and 0.24 (until 77, 112, 147,182 and 407 days, respectively). The values of genetic correlations were medium,...

Effectiveness of phosphate fertilizers of diffrent water solubilities in relation to soil phophorus adsorption Scientia Agricola
Prochnow,Luís Ignácio; Quispe,Jack Fernando Santos; Francisco,Eros Artur Bohac; Braga,Graziela.
Phosphate fertilizers should match soil attributes to enhance agronomic effectiveness and recovery by plants. The purpose of this study was to test the agronomic effectiveness of P sources varying in water solubility on two soils differing widely in P adsorption capacity (PAC). Soils selected for the study were Oxisols with very low available P and presenting low and high PAC (Ox-LPAC and Ox-HPAC, respectively). Both were limed to pH 5.4 in a greenhouse study conducted utilizing corn as the test crop. Treatments consisted of the two soils interacting with five P sources (monocalcium phosphate - MCP, low-grade single superphosphate - LG-SSP, multimagnesium phosphate - MMP, Arad phosphate rock - PR and a P impurity in triple superphosphate - H14), and four...
