Blast disease is a major rice disease causing significant rice yield loss over the world. It is believed that growing a resistance variety is the most effective strategy for blast disease management. Bahng Taen is one of the released Thai rice varieties primarily found to be resistance to blast disease in the Eastern region. Nowadays, the resistance has decreased drastically. The variety is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod insensitive, short duration of maturity with high yielding characteristic. In this project, a marker-assisted backcrossing strategy was applied in order to improve blast resistance in Bahng Taen by introgression of resistant genes from donors; PSL’07F6No.2 and PSL’07F6No.5 into this variety.
