Mechanical transplanting and urea fertilizer deep placement into soil simultaneously with a walk behind type mechanical transplanter increased yield and benefit of wetland rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivation in Bangladesh CIGR Journal
Hossen, Md. Anwar; Kamruzzaman, Md.; Islam, Md. Monirul; Rahman, Mohammad Abdur; Kabir, Md. Shahjahan.
AbstractA research was conducted to evaluate the BRRI developed rice transplanter cum prilled urea applicator (RTPUA) during Boro 2017-2018. Urea fertilizer deep placement mechanism successfully incorporated in the walk behind type rice transplanter (ARP-4UM). Engine power available at high rpm (more than 1800 rpm of the walking type rice transplanter) was conveyed to the applicator with the arrangement of a belt-pulley, worm gearing, shaft-bearing, chain-sprocket and bevel gear with engage-disengage facility resulting 22 rpm of the applicator main shaft considering transplanting speed of the transplanter. Impellor type mechanism was connected with the main shaft of the applicator to dispense the prilled urea fertilizer to the output channel. Field...

Households’ characteristics and perceptions of weather variability impact on rice yield: empirical analysis of small scale farmers in Tanzania Ciência Rural
Kulyakwave,Peter David; Shiwei,Xu; Yu,Wen.
ABSTRACT: Rice farming is characterized by various factors including environmental and non-environmental factors. The current paper analyses the influence of households’ characteristics, and perceptions of weather variability on rice yield. Authors used primary data collected from small-scale rice farmers in the Mbeya region of Tanzania. Garret technique and Stata software were used for data analyses. Results confirmed that farmer’s education, marital status, gender, and land ownership have a positive influence on rice yield. Thus, for every 1% increase in each variable increases rice yield by 14%, 98%, 26%, and 21% respectively. Owing to empirical results on farmers’ perceptions, it is confirmed that if the drought period increased by 1%, would on...

Soil fertility and upland rice yield after biochar application in the Cerrado PAB
Petter,Fabiano André; Madari,Beáta Emöke; Silva,Mellissa Ananias Soler da; Carneiro,Marco Aurélio Carbone; Carvalho,Márcia Thaís de Melo; Marimon Júnior,Ben Hur; Pacheco,Leandro Pereira.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of biochar made from Eucalyptus on soil fertility, and on the yield and development of upland rice. The experiment was performed during two years in a randomized block design with four replicates, in a sandy loam Dystric Plinthosol. Four doses of NPK 05-25-15, annually distributed in stripes (0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1), and four doses of biochar (0, 8, 16 and 32 Mg ha-1), applied once in the first year - alone or with NPK - were evaluated. In the first year, biochar positively affected soil fertility [total organic carbon (TOC), Ca, P, Al, H+Al, and pH], at 0-10 cm soil depth, and it was the only factor with significant effect on yield. In the second year, the effect of biochar diminished or was...

“Buer Ner Moo” a rain phase aromatic Highland rice variety, was planted on rice terrace that a hilltribe who called themselves Pwakin-nyaw (Kariang) was the owner. The rice name was Pwakin-nyaw’s language that means “Aromatic rice” same as its physical characteristic. Buer Ner Moo was a land race rice variety, which have been bred by Pwakinnyaw farmer selection. It was kept from generation to next generation until now. Therefore, it still closely related to Pwakin-nyaw’s community. If it was developed to pure variety and to Geographical Indications (GI), that was the way to increase its value. Thereby, the purifiers Buer Ner Moo rice by breeding method was a part of Development of Aromatic Highland Rice Variety (Buer Ner Moo) for Food Security project that...

ความเป็นไปได้ของการใช้สารปรับปรุงดินเพื่อลดก๊าซเรือนกระจกและขณะเดียวกันรักษาผลผลิตข้าว: รายงานการวิจัยฉบับสมบูรณ์ Thai Agricultural
Patcharee Saenjan; Daungsamorn Tulapithak; Kasuyuki Inbuchi.
Field experiment was conducted in farmer’s rice field with loamy soil in Khon Kaen province, northeast of Thailand during to study the effect of different levels of sulfate (SO42-) on methane emission and rice yield. SO42- was applied at the rate of 0, 50, 100, and 210 kg SO42- ha-1 by using ammonium phosphate (42% SO42-) with balanced amount of 80 kg N, 100 kg P2O5 and 80 kg K2O ha-1 by adding various fertilizers. The experiment was laid out in randomized completely block design (RCBD) with tripled replication. CH4 flux was measured every week by using closed chambers method. Global warming potential (GWP) was also calculated. Soil samples were collage at each growth stage to determine SO42-, NH4+ and Fe2+. Rice yield was measured at harvest. The...

Three years experiments have been conducted during 2010-2012 to develop and test for rice yield improvement and production cost reduction in Southern part of Thailand. This experiment was conducted in Phatthalung Rice Research Center in the first two years and in farmer field for the third year with Split Plot in RCB; rice varieties as main plots and rice seed rate or spacing as subplots and 4 replications. Results in research center found that for broadcasting rice, Pathum Thani 1 and RD37 which were photoperiod insensitive varieties gave the highest yield when direct broadcasted with 20 kg/rai seed rate whereas photoperiod sensitive varieties such as Chiang Phatthalung and Sangyod Phatthalung showed the highest yield when soak seed broadcasted with 15...

“Beu Ner Moo” rainfed aromatic highland rice varieties were planted on rice terrace by hilltribe Pwakin-nyaw (Karen). The name means aromatic rice which were selected by Pwakin-nyaw farmers long time ago and still grown as a special varieties until now. Due to their impurity, pure line selection was the breeding methodology and geographical indications (GI) was the way to increase their value. There were three steps to develop Beu Ner Moo. 1) Collecting 48 Beu Ner Moo rice varieties from 4 districts of Chiang Mai including Mae Ai, Chiang Dao, Chai Prakan and Mae Chaem. 2) Purifying Beu Ner Moo rice by pure line selection according to their morphological characters and can be classified into 10 groups. Then selected only 6 groups with long grains and aroma...
