Coracoclavicular and Costoclavicular Joints at a Common Juncture: A Rare Phenomenon International Journal of Morphology
Rani,Anita; Mishra,Suniti R; Chopra,Jyoti; Rani,Archana; Manik,Punita; Kumar,Navneet; Dewan,R. K.
Movements at the human shoulder girdle are the result of complex interplay of glenohumeral, acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular and scapulothoracic articulations. Clavicle apart from articulating with the scapula and sternum is also connected with first rib by costoclavicular ligament and with coracoid process by coracoclavicular ligament. At times the area of attachment of these ligaments on clavicle, first rib and scapula show faceted apophysis suggesting the presence of additional diarthrodial articulations. Costoclavicular joint exists between clavicle and first rib and coracoclavicular joint between clavicle and coracoids process. Both these joints are described in the literature, but the concurrent occurrence of them in the same bone has not been...

Macroanatomy of the Bones of Thoracic Limb of an Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) International Journal of Morphology
Ahasan,. S. M. Lutful; Quasem,Md. Abul; Rahman,Mohammad Lutfur; Hasan,Rubyath Binte; Kibria,A. S. M. Golam; Shil,Subrata Kumar.
Bones of forelimb were studied from a prepared skeleton of an adult female Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) in Anatomy Museum of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to understand the morphological form and structure of Asian elephant forelimb. The angle was approximately 123 between caudal border of scapula and caudal border of humerus. The scapula, humerus and bones of the antebrachium (particularly the ulna) were massive bones. The bones of manus were the short and relatively small. The dorsal border of scapula extended from the level of proximal extremity of first rib to the middle of the 6th rib. Ventral angle of scapula articulated with humerus by elongated shaped glenoid cavity (cavitas glenoidalis) of scapula and head of humerus...

High Incidence of Complete Ossification of the Superior Transverse Scapular Ligament in Brazilians and its Clinical Implications International Journal of Morphology
Silva,J. G; Abidu-Figueiredo,M; Fernandes,R. M. P; Aureliano-Rafael,F; Sgrott,E. A; Silva,S. F; Babinski,M. A.
The aim of this study was to verify the prevalence of the ossified superior transverse scapular ligament (STSL) on dry bones of scapulae. 221 dry bones were analyzed, (111 rights and 110 lefts), proceeding from Rio de Janeiro and of Santa Catarina, Brazil. As exclusion criterion, were not analyzed bones of children or damaged. For the quantitative analysis of the data, the software Graphad Instat was used. Fisher exact test was used considering the p ≤ 0,05 as significant. After analysis of the scapulae, 30,76% (68/ 221) presented the ossified STSL (p ≤ 0,0001) of which, 52,94% (36/68) were ossified on the right side and 47,05% (32/68) on the left one. The 153 scapulae that did not present the ossified STSL, it was observed in 19,6 %...

Morphometric Analysis of the Scapula and Their Differences between Females and Males International Journal of Morphology
Oliveira Costa,Ana Camily; Feitosa de Albuquerque,Pedro Paulo; de Albuquerque,Priscilla Virgínio; Ribeiro de Oliveira,Belisa Duarte; Lima de Albuquerque,Yuri Mateus; Caiaffo,Vitor.
Sexual dimorphism is a key role for forensic anthropology. It allows ascertaining the sex of certain biological discoveries. By postmortem studies it is possible to establish a profile of individuals. This profile allows the identification in cases where bodies are skeletonized. Several bones present dimorphism and have been studied to increase approach for forensic identification. This study morphometrically evaluated the scapula bone and compared the measurements between scapula bone of female and male cadavers. Sixty parts were utilized in this experiment. All cadavers belonged to the Department of Animal Morphology and Physiology of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. The scapula bones were photographed and measured through software ImageJ®....
