L'induction hormonale de la ponte à l'aide de la LH-RH chez l' ombrine, Sciaenops ocellatus. Mise en évidence des conditions optimales pour la production d'oeufs et de larves de qualité ArchiMer
Gardes, Lionel.
20 and 50 µg.kg·1 doses of [D Trp6] LH-RHa analogue proved to be effective in inducing and synchronising spawns in red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus, in the French West Indies tropical conditions. The study of oocyte development through steady ovarian biopsies allowed to carry out injections at different stages. The influence of female ovarian development state at stimulation time on further development is shown. Phase C of germinal vesicle migration stage was identified as an optimum for successful stimulations. An interesting potential of successive stimulations leading to good quality spawns is established and the factors of success identified. The present work shows the  nterest of combined use of multivariate analyses and one way analyse of variance for...

Induced spawning of red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus: use of multivariate and univariate analysis methods in the search for side effects of LH-RHa treatments and ovarian development state upon spawn quality ArchiMer
Gardes, Lionel; Villanove, Philippe; Buchet, Vincent; Fauvel, Christian.
The present work examines the usefulness of the combination of multivariate analyses and further one-way analysis of variance in the search for links between causes and effects in heterologous stimulation of spawning in fish. Stimulations with both 20 and 50 mu g . kg(-1) doses of [D Trp(6)] luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogue (LH-RHa) were effective in inducing and synchronizing spawning of red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus. Oocyte development monitoring using ovarian biopsy allowed treatment injections at different stages of maturation. The influence at stimulation time of female oocyte development state upon further development was shown. An interesting potential of second stimulation, leading to high quality spawns, was established and factors...

Effects of a mix of Bacillus sp. as a potential probiotic for Florida pompano, common snook and red drum larvae performances and digestive enzyme activities ArchiMer
Hauville, Marion; Zambonino-infante, J. L.; Bell, J. Gordon; Migaud, H.; Main, K. L..
This study examined the effect of a commercial mix of Bacillus sp. on survival, growth and digestive enzyme activities of Florida pompano, red drum and common snook. Larvae were fed either live feed enriched with Algamac 3050 (Control), Algamac 3050 and probiotics (PB), or the previous diet combined with a daily addition of probiotics to the tank water (PB+). Survival was not affected by the treatments for any of the species. At the end of the pompano and snook trial, standard lengths of larvae from the PB and PB+ treatments were significantly greater than for the control larvae. Microbiological analyses were performed at the end of the pompano trial, and numbers of presumptive Vibrio were not a concern in the system. For both pompano and snook,...

Remplacement total des artémia par des microparticules inertes dans l'élevage larvaire de l'ombrine Sciaenops ocellatus en Martinique ArchiMer
Petton, Bruno; Falguiere, Jean-claude.
In most of marine fishes cultured, larvae in their early development are fed with live prey (rotifer and/or artemia). In hatcheries, culture of these preys is labour consuming, needs specific facilities and represent an important part of production cast. On the other hand, world artemia production is subjected to fluctuation of harvest in the wild which could Iimit fish farming industry in the near future. A dried formula adapted to marine fish larvae has been perfected by Ifremer's center of Brest (France) and is distributed by a feeding company since 1999. This artificial microbound diet has been successfully tested on several temperate fishes such as European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) or European seabream (Sparus...

Premiers essais d'élevage larvaire de l'ombrine subtropicale (red fish) Sciaenops ocellatus dans les conditions intensives en Martinique ArchiMer
Soletchnik, Patrick; Thouard, Emmanuel; Goyard, Emmanuel; Baisnee, D; Yvon, C; Baker, P.
Two batches of red drum larvae were air shipped from hatcheries in the U.S.A. and stocked in two intensive tank experiments at densities oc 7 :.nd 2-3 larvae per liter. Food items include live rotifers, copepods, brine shrimps. squid and commercial fish pellets. Growth rates were similar in both experiments up to day 20 (12-1" mm) but differences in feeding schedules and an infestation by the dinoflagelate Amyloodinium sp. affected the growth from day 20 to 43 in the second trial. Significant mortalities occurred in the tanks during the first feeding period (days 2 to 7) and again from days 17 to 20 as the result of cannibalism. Survival between day 2 and day 44 was 44% in the first trial. Abnormal inflation of the swim bladder and infection with...
