Allele frequency and selection efficiency in cross populations of Andean x Mesoamerican common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L. Fabales, Fabaceae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Baldoni,Aisy B.; Ramalho,Magno A. Patto; Abreu,Ângela de Fátima B..
Strategies were investigated for improving efficiency in the use of segregating common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) populations using crosses between the Andean cultivar BRS-Radiante and the Mesoamerican parent cultivar Carioca-MG by developing populations with 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 87.5% of the allele frequency of one of the parents. For each of the five populations we evaluated for two traits, the number of days to the beginning of flowering and grain yield (g plot-1), in the F2:3 (sown in February 2006) and F2:4 (sown in July 2006) generation progenies using 15 x 15 lattice design experiments, with 44 progenies (n = 220 plants) plus the two parents and three controls being evaluated for each generation. In terms of variability release, the populations...

Genetic dissimilarity, selection index and correlation estimation in a melon germplasm Horticultura Brasileira
Gomes,Danilo A; Alves,Igor M; Maciel,Gabriel M; Siquieroli,Ana Carolina S; Peixoto,Joicy Vitória M; Pires,Patrícia dos S; Medeiros,Iago A de.
ABSTRACT The success of breeding programs depends on genetic variability. Individuals selected based on a few traits may be a limitation. One alternative is the use of nonparametric indices. However, there is no information on the use of selection indices in melon germplasms. The present study aimed to estimate genetic dissimilarity in a melon germplasm and select potential parent plants for future breeding programs. The genetic material consisted of 37 melon accessions. The traits assessed were fruit diameter and length, diameter and length of the fruit cavity and total soluble solids. Genetic dissimilarity was assessed by multivariate analyses (UPGMA and Tocher). Selection gain estimates were analyzed by comparing the classic Smith-Hazel and sum of ranks...

Selection indexes for agronomic and chemical traits in segregating sweet corn populations Horticultura Brasileira
Silva,Marina F e; Maciel,Gabriel M; Finzi,Rafael R; Peixoto,Joicy Vitoria M; Rezende,Wender S; Castoldi,Renata.
ABSTRACT In the sweet corn breeding, the selection of superior genotypes should consider many traits simultaneously. The best strategy to select traits simultaneously is through selection indexes. This study aimed to compare the efficiency of different selection indexes based on characteristics with direct effect on grain yield in segregating sweet corn populations. Eighteen traits were evaluated in eight sweet corn genotypes on generation F3. Data were submitted to analyses of variance and path coefficient analyses. We compared the direct and indirect selection and the following indexes: base, classical, desired gains and genotype-ideotype distance. According to path coefficient analyses, the traits which showed a direct effect about grain yield (GY) were...

Prediction methods and heterogeneity effects of residual variances within genetic treatments in clone tests PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Martinez, Diego Tyszka; Resende, Marcos Deon Vilela de; Higa, Antonio Rioyei; Costa, Reginaldo Brito da.
The aim of this study was to compare, through simulation, the BLUP and BLUP-HET procedures for breeding values prediction under heterogeneity of residual variances. Random data were generated with spread sheet, considering a variance of 0,10 and variable residual variance, by number of clones, in order toprovide heterogeneity of variances. Actual and residual breeding values obtained were added to the mean 10, in order to obtain positive phenotypic values. Experimental design was random blocks with 100 genotypes, one plant per plot and 2, 5, 10 and 20 repetitions. Data were evaluated using Selegen software, obtaining estimated breeding values through BLUP and BLUP-HET procedures which were compared to actualbreeding values. In this study, using two and...

Genetic parameters of traits at the juvenile stage of different assai palm tree progenies PAB
Navegantes,Patricia Cardoso Andrade; Oliveira,Maria do Socorro Padilha de; Nunes,José Airton Rodrigues.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to estimate genetic parameters of traits at the juvenile stage of different assai palm (Euterpe oleracea) tree progenies, as well as to select among and within the most promising for fruit production. A total of 34 half-sib and 16 full-sib progenies were evaluated in a completely randomized design with eight replicates and one plant per plot. Nine traits were measured in five harvests, and the data were analyzed using the mixed model approach. The genetic variance was significant for most of the traits. Progeny-mean heritabilities showed moderate magnitudes, ranging from 51% for number of dead leaves to 59% for leaf sheath length. In general, the genetic correlations were positive and had magnitudes varying from...

Genetic control of potassium content of common bean seeds PAB
Poersch,Nerison Luís; Ribeiro,Nerinéia Dalfollo; Rosa,Daniele Piano; Possobom,Micheli Thaise Della Flora.
The objective of this work was to investigate possible maternal effects on potassium content of common bean seeds, as well as to estimate the heritability and selection gains in early hybrid generations for this character and to evaluate the efficiency of genetic selection to improve the nutritional quality of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Crosses with four cultivars from the Mesoamerican gene pool yielded the reciprocal F1 and F2 generations and the backcrossed populations (BCP1 and BCP2). The potassium content of the progenies was measured via nitric‑perchloric digestion and flame photometry. The potassium content in the tested progenies varied from 6.0 to 14.9 g kg-1 dry matter, and no significant maternal effect was observed. The narrow-sense...

Identification of superior genotypes and soybean traits by multivariate analysis and selection index Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Leite,Wallace de Sousa; Unêda-Trevisoli,Sandra Helena; Silva,Fabiana Mota da; Silva,Alysson Jalles da; Mauro,Antonio Orlando Di.
ABSTRACT The selection of superior genotypes of soybean is a complex process, thus exploratory multivariate techniques can be applied to select genotypes analyzing the agronomic traits altogether, increasing the chance of success of a breeding program. Thus, the objective of this study was to select soybean genotypes carrying the RR gene with good agronomical performance through of multivariate analysis and selection index and identify those traits that influence, also verifying the agreement of multivariate techniques and selection index in the selection process. The experiment was conducted in an increased block experimental being evaluated 227 genotypes of F5 generation, which 85 of those were detected to be glyphosate-resistant by PCR. The following...
