Rat dorsal prostate is necessary for vaginal adhesion of the seminal plug and sperm motility in the uterine horns Biol. Res.
Tlachi-López,José L; López,Aurora; Hoffman,Kurt; Velázquez-Moctezuma,Javier; García-Lorenzana,Mario; Lucio,Rosa Angélica.
The rat prostate comprises dorsal, ventral and lateral lobes that are morphologically and biochemically distinct. Lesions to these structures are expected to affect the quality of the ejaculate and male fertility. In experiment 1, we analyzed ejaculate parameters of males that had chemical lesions of the dorsal or ventral lobes. At pre-lesion and at 5 and 20 days post-lesion males were mated, and after ejaculation, seminal fluid and seminal plug were obtained from the mated females. In experiment 2, the ventral lobes were ablated, and the ejaculate was analyzed. In experiment 3, the fertility of males with chemically-lesioned dorsal lobes or ablation of the ventral lobes was evaluated. Chemical lesion of the dorsal lobe prevented the adhesion of the...

Sesame radiatum Phytoestrogens Stimulate Spermatogenic Activity and Improve Sperm Quality in Adult Male Sprague Dawley Rat Testis International Journal of Morphology
Shittu,Lukeman, A. J.; Shittu,Remilekun, K.; Adesite,Samson, O.; Ajala,M. Oluwole; Bankole,Munir, A.; Benebo,A. S.; Tayo,A. O.; Ogundipe,Olufemi, A.; Ashiru,Oladapo, A..
Increasing concern has been expressed about the declining sperm count of humans and the potential environmental effects of both synthetic and natural estrogenic endocrine disruptors (EEDs) on human reproductive health in the last few decades. However, due to paucity of knowledge, we evaluate the chronic reproductive toxicity of sesame phytoestrogenic lignans on the male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats' testis. Thirty adult male SD rats weighing 150-200g were divided into three groups. Two treated groups received a daily dose of aqueous leaves extract of Sesamum radiatum at 14.0 mg/kg bw and 28.0mg /kg bw respectively via gastric gavage, while equal volume of normal saline was administered to the control group for six weeks. Seminal analysis and hormonal assay...
