Variaciones interanuales (1995-2000) de la temperatura y la salinidad registradas en los meses de enero en el golfo San Jorge y aguas adyacentes (43°S-47°S). OceanDocs
Louge, E.; Reta, R.; Santos, B.A.; Hernandez, D.R..
Temperature and salinity interannual variations are analyzed south ofthe hake (Merluccius hubbsi)spawning grounds area, in the San Jorge Gulf and adjacent waters Argentine Sea, SW Atlantic. The study period comprises the months of January 1995-2000. Results of cruises carried out on board of INIDEP research vessels to assess hake juveniles were studied. Statistically significant increase of temperature from 1997 was observed. Change trends over a period of 20 years at a global climate scale are discussed. Mean salinity did not show variations except for 2000 when it was slightly higher probably due to the scarce influence of the Patagonian Current in the area. Temperature and salinity fields showed a horizontal gradient south of the Gulf (thermohaline...

Características ambientales, reproducción y alimentación de la merluza (Merluccius hubbsi)y la anchoíta (Engraulis anchoita)en su habitatreproductivo patagónico. Síntesis y perspectivas OceanDocs
Sabatini, M..
Fish recruitment seems to be influenced by environmental variability;the plankton would act as a link between both processes. While environmental variability can be explained in terms of physical forcing, recruitment variability is partly determined by the survival of early larvae. In this review, the available information on hydrography and plankton in relation to reproduction and feeding of hake (Merluccius hubbsi)and anchovy (Engraulis anchoita)in the Patagonian Argentine Sea, SW Atlantic spawning ground was summarized and integrated. The objective was to assess what is actually known about the environmental and planktonic features of the region that may have an effect on the recruitment of both species. In the Patagonian spawning ground, detection, in...

Estudio de las tramas tróficas asociadas a diferentes densidades de vieira Patagónica Zygochlamys patagonica del Atlántico SO mediante el uso de isótopos estables OceanDocs
Schwartz, M..
Zygochlamys patagonica (King and Broderip, 1832) is an ecosystem engineer mollusk which forms aggregations or banks, of different densities, in the main frontal systems of the SW Atlantic Ocean. The objectives of this work were to analyze the composition, biomass, diversity and species richness of the benthic invertebrate assemblages at different scallop densities as well as the variability of their trophic webs at high and low scallop densities. For this, samples of the benthic invertebrate assemblages were taken at the Shelf Break Front with a non-selective epibenthic dredge. It was evaluated if the abundance (ind/m2) or biomass (colonial species, gr/m2) of the different taxa varied with scallop densities. The results showed that from 14 analyzed, the...

Reclutamiento de la vieira patagónica, Zygochlamys patagonica (Bivalvia: Pectinidae), en el sector norte de manejo, océano Atlántico sudoccidental OceanDocs
Mauna, A.C..
CDATA[Patagonian scallop (Zygochlamys patagonica) is a suspension feeder bivalve that presents the highest concentrations of recruits associated to the shelf-break front; but the temporal pattern of these recruitments have not been described in detail. Given the importance of recruitments for the development of the fishery and the population dynamics of the resource, in this report space-time distribution [catch per unit of effort (CPUE) of specimens =<, 15 mm, age 0+] is described and comparison between years and the Management Units (MU) 1.2 and 2 carried out. The study area corresponds to the North Management Sector of the patagonian scallop fishery (38º S-39º 30’ S, 55º W-56º W), Argentine Sea, SW Atlantic Ocean. The null hypothesis on recruitment...
