S-metolachlor efficacy on the control of Brachiaria decumbens, Digitaria horizontalis, and Panicum maximum in mechanically green harvested sugarcane Planta Daninha
Correia,N.M.; Perussi,F.J.; Gomes,L.J.P..
The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of S-metolachlor applied in pre-emergence conditions for the control of Brachiaria decumbens, Digitaria horizontalis, and Panicum maximum in sugar cane mechanically harvested without previous burning of the crop (green harvest) with the crop residue either left or not on the soil surface. The experiments were established in the field according to a randomized complete block design with four repetitions in a 7 x 2 split-plot scheme. In the plots, five herbicide treatments were studied (S-metolachlor at 1.44, 1.92, and 2.40 kg ha-1, clomazone at 1.20 kg ha-1, and isoxaflutole at 0.188 kg ha-1), and two control treatments with no herbicide application. In the subplots, the presence or absence of sugar cane crop...

Polygala extraaxillaris: oxidative stress in Brachiaria decumbens mediated by volatile oils Planta Daninha
Silva,C.B.; Simionatto,E.; Gebara,S.S.; Poppi,N.R.; Cândido,A.C.S.; Lima,C.P.; Dias,J.F.G.; Zanin,S.M.W.; Peres,M.T.L.P.; Moreira,T.F.; Miguel,O.G.; Miguel,M.D..
The volatile oils extracted from the roots of Polygala extraaxillaris were analyzed to assess whether they increase oxidative stress in Brachiaria decumbens var. Piatã, as well as to assess their effect on cellular division and cytotoxicity in laboratory. Six concentrations were used (0%, 0.35%, 0.65%, 1.25%, 0.65%, and 5.0%) with four repetitions of 25 seeds. The substance 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl) - ethanone was identified as the major constituent of the volatile oils. The results showed that the highest concentrations of the oils resulted in an increase in the oxidative stress in B. decumbens, as well as alteration in germination and growth, with a consequent reduction in the process of cellular division, causing changes in the growth standard and antioxidant...

Effect of brushwood transposition on the leaf litter arthropod fauna in a cerrado area Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Vergílio,Paula Cristina Benetton; Knoll,Fátima do Rosário Naschenveng; Mariano,Daniela da Silva; Dinardi,Nágila Maiara; Ueda,Marcos Yukio; Cavassan,Osmar.
The results of ecological restoration techniques can be monitored through biological indicators of soil quality such as the leaf litter arthropod fauna. This study aimed to determine the immediate effect of brushwood transposition transferred from an area of native vegetation to a disturbed area, on the leaf litter arthropod fauna in a degraded cerrado area. The arthropod fauna of four areas was compared: a degraded area with signal grass, two experimental brushwood transposition areas, with and without castor oil plants, and an area of native cerrado. In total, 7,660 individuals belonging to 23 taxa were sampled. Acari and Collembola were the most abundant taxa in all studied areas, followed by Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and Symphyla....

Rumen dynamics of neutral detergent fiber in cattle fed low-quality tropical forage and supplemented with nitrogenous compounds R. Bras. Zootec.
Sampaio,Cláudia Batista; Detmann,Edenio; Lazzarini,Isis; Souza,Marjorrie Augusto de; Paulino,Mário Fonseca; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of supplementation with nitrogenous compounds on rumen dynamics of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) in cattle fed low-quality tropical forage. Five crossbred heifers with average live weight of 180 kg and fitted with rumen cannulae were used. The animals were fed ad libitum with signal grass (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf.) hay, which had crude protein (CP) content of 4.86% of dry matter (DM). The five treatments were proposed in order to raise the CP level of diets to 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 percentile points above the CP level of the forage. The supplement was a mixture of urea, ammonium sulfate, and albumin (4.5:0.5:1.0, respectively). The experiment was carried out according to a 5 × 5 Latin square design, with five...

In vitro degradation of neutral detergent fiber of high-quality tropical forage according to supplementation with different nitrogenous compounds R. Bras. Zootec.
Zorzi,Karina; Detmann,Edenio; Queiroz,Augusto César de; Paulino,Mário Fonseca; Mantovani,Hilário Cuquetto; Bayão,Geraldo Fábio.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the in vitro degradation dynamics of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of high-quality tropical forage according to supplementation with different nitrogenous compounds sources. A signal grass sample harvested during rainy season was used as basal forage. Casein was used as true protein source and urea:ammonium sulfate (U:AS, 9:1) mixture (urea) as non-protein nitrogen source. The first three supplements were the addition of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg of casein per mL of final incubation solution. The urea was added to the same amount of protein supplied by equivalent levels 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/mL of casein. In total, seven treatments were evaluated, including a control (only grass). The supplements were evaluated in a...

Morphogenetic characteristics of three Brachiaria brizantha cultivars submitted to nitrogen fertilization Anais da ABC (AABC)
Silva,Marcos F; Porto,Edson M. V; Alves,Dorismar D; Vitor,Cláudio M.T; Aspiazú,Ignacio.
This study aims to evaluate the morphogenetic characteristics of three cultivars of Brachiaria brizantha subjected to nitrogen fertilization. The design was a randomized block in factorial arrangement 4x3; three cultivars of B. brizantha - Marandu, Piatã, Xaraés and four nitrogen levels - 0, 80, 160 and 240 kg/ha, with three replications. The experimental units consisted of plastic pots filled with 5 dm3 of soil. Thereupon the establishment fertilization, varieties were sowed directly in the pots, leaving, after thinning, five plants per pot. Forty-five days after planting, it was done a standardization cut at 10 cm tall. Nitrogen levels were distributed according to the treatments, divided in three applications. The morphogenetic characteristics were...
