Induction of in vitro flowering in Capsicum frutescens under the influence of silver nitrate and cobalt chloride and pollen transformation Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Sharma,Ashwani; Kumar,Vinod; Giridhar,Parvatam; Ravishankar,Gokare Aswathanarayana.
The influence of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and cobalt chloride (CoCl2) on shoot multiplication and in vitro flowering in Capsicum frutescens Mill. was investigated. Exogenous administration of AgNO3 and CoCl2 at a concentration of 30 µM resulted in the maximum tissue response in terms of shoot length and number of shoots after 45 days culturing on MS medium. Both silver nitrate (40 µM) and cobalt chloride (30 µM) influenced in vitro flowering after 25 and 45 days respectively. This is the first report on in vitro flowering in C. frutescens. The study also demonstrated successful transformation of pollen obtained from the in vitro flowers. Since capsicum is highly recalcitrant to in vitro plant regeneration, the results of the study may be highly useful in...

AgNO3: a potential regulator of ethylene activity and plant growth modulator Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Kumar,Vinod; Parvatam,Giridhar; Ravishankar,Gokare Aswathanarayana.
The aim of this review is to critically analyze the role of silver nitrate (AgNO3) in modulating plant growth and development. In recent years, basic studies on ethylene regulation opened new vistas for applied research in the area of micro-propagation, somatic embryogenesis, in vitro flowering, growth promotion, fruit ripening, and sex expression. Silver nitrate has proved to be a very potent inhibitor of ethylene action and is widely used in plant tissue culture. Few properties of silver nitrate such as easy availability, solubility in water, specificity and stability make it very useful for various applications in exploiting plant growth regulation and morphogenesis in vivo and in vitro. Silver ion mediated responses seem to be involved in polyamines,...

Accumulation of silver nanoparticles and its effect on the antioxidant capacity in Allium cepa L Phyton
Juárez-Maldonado,A; Rosales-Velázquez,JL; Ortega-Ortiz,H; Cabrera-De-la-Fuente,M; Ramírez,H; Benavides-Mendoza,A.
Nanotechnology is currently an important worldwide study field because it provides control on matter at a nanometric scale. In food and agricultural fields, the applications of this technology are in early stages. Onion is one of the main vegetables grown in the world. Onion is a low calorie food which contains a large amount of flavonoids. In this work, silver nitrate application in onion was evaluated. An onion crop was developed at the University Antonio Narro in Saltillo, Mexico. Two methods of silver nitrate application were used (a nutritive solution: 0, 20, 40 and 80 mg/L of AgNO3; and foliar spray: 0, 20 and 40 mg/L of AgNO3). The samples were taken at 30, 60 and 90 days after transplanting. Total antioxidant capacity, silver accumulation and...

Optimization of in vitro organogenesis in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) Scientia Agricola
Trevisan,Flavio; Mendes,Beatriz Madalena Januzzi.
In vitro organogenesis of passion fruit was studied by the induction of adventitious buds from leaf discs in culture media supplemented with benzyladenine (BAP) or thidiazuron (TDZ). To minimize adverse effects of ethylene accumulation on shoot development, silver nitrate (AgNO3) was added to the induction media. Both BAP (0; 2.2; 4.4; 6.6 µmol L-1) and TDZ (0; 1.1; 2.2; 3.4 µmol L-1) were effective in promoting shoot development. Although no significant differences were detected using AgNO3 (23.5 µmol L-1), buds grown in AgNO3-supplemented media were more vigorous. The number of explants with buds obtained using TDZ and AgNO3-supplemented media (5.6) were higher than those obtained using BAP and AgNO3 (3.0). MSM + giberrellic acid (GA3), MSM + coconut...

Influence of Silver Nitrate on Somatic Embryogenesis Induction in Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) BABT
Rojas-Lorz,Laura; Arrieta-Espinoza,Griselda; Valdez-Melara,Marta; Pereira,Luiz Filipe Protasio; Gatica-Arias,Andrés.
Abstract The influence of silver nitrate (AgNO3), benzyladenine (BAP), and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on low frequency somatic embryogenesis (LFSE) induction in Caturra and Catuaí arabica coffee was evaluated. For the Caturra cultivar, the production of somatic embryos was significantly increased by adding AgNO3 to the semisolid culture medium. The highest average number of somatic embryos for this cultivar was obtained using 6.6 μM BAP, 2.85 μM IAA, and 40 μM AgNO3. In contrast, for the Catuaí cultivar, the highest average number of somatic embryos was obtained using semisolid medium supplemented with 8.8 μM BAP, and 2.85 μM IAA. Using these protocols, somatic embryos were directly induced using leaf sections of in vitro plants of both coffee cultivars...

Mechanism of bactericidal activity of Silver Nitrate - a concentration dependent bi-functional molecule BJM
Pandian,Sureshbabu Ram Kumar; Deepak,Venkataraman; Kalishwaralal,Kalimuthu; Viswanathan,Pushpa; Gurunathan,Sangiliyandi.
Silver nitrate imparts different functions on bacteria depending upon its concentration. At lower concentration it induced synthesis of nanoparticles, whereas at higher concentrations it induced cell death. Bacillus licheniformis was used as model system. The MIC was 5 mM, and it induced catalase production, apoptotic body formation and DNA fragmentation.

Pedroso,Rita Cássia Nascimento; Branquinho,Núbia Angélica de Ávila; Hara,Alessandra Cristina Boffino de Almeida Monteiro; Silva,Fabiano Guimarães; Kellner Filho,Luis Claudio; Silva,Marcio Luís Andrade; Cunha,Wilson Roberto; Pauletti,Patricia Mendonça; Januário,Ana Helena.
ABSTRACT: Hyptis marrubioides (Lamiaceae) is a medicinal plant that is native from Brazilian Cerrado. In vitro propagation techniques make use of elicitors to alter metabolic pathways, affecting how molecules are produced both qualitatively and quantitatively. This research aimed to evaluate how abiotic elicitors salicylic acid (SA) and silver nitrate (SN) at concentrations of 30µM or 60µM influence Hyptis marrubioides seedling growth by two different in vitro culture methods. The rutin content was quantified by HPLC-DAD. Compared to an untreated culture, the H. marrubioides methanolic extracts cultured in MS medium for 10 days followed by culture in MS medium containing SN (30µM) for 20 days had 1.28 times higher rutin content. In a second experiment,...
