Mathematical model and numerical simulations of the migration and growth of Biscay Bay anchovy early larval stages ArchiMer
Boussouar, Ahmed; Le Bihan, Soizick; Arino, Ovide; Prouzet, Patrick.
The paper presents a mathematical model of the early larval stage, from spawn to the resorption of the yolk-sac, of the anchovy, Engraulis encrasicolus, of the Bay of Biscay. The model describes the temperature-dependent growth and drift of passive larvae by the currents and vertical turbulence. A numerical code has been built and numerous simulations, fed by both biological (egg surveys by AZTI-San Sebastian, Spain, and IFREMER, France) and physical (circulation model by IFREMER-Brest, France) data, were undertaken. Their main features are presented and discussed here, and some conclusions on the possible utilization of the results in improving estimates of anchovy stocks by the daily egg production method are drawn.

Mycek, Paul.
This manuscript deals with the numerical and experimental characterisation of the behaviour of marine current turbines. In the experimental part, trials were run at IFREMER’s wave and current flume tank in Boulogne-Sur-Mer, on prototypes of three-bladed horizontal axis turbines. Configurations with one single turbine on the one hand, and two turbines aligned with the incoming flow on the other hand, were considered for a large range of TSRs and, when relevant, of inter-device distances. The behaviour of the turbines is analysed in terms of performances (power and thrust coefficients) and development of the wake. The effects of the ambient turbulence intensity rate are also considered. Besides, numerical computations, obtained from a tridimensional unsteady...

Mycek, Paul; Gaurier, Benoit; Germain, Gregory; Pinon, Gregory; Rivoalen, Elie.

Carlier, Clement.
The development of marine current turbines arrays has been an active research topic for some years. However, many studies are still necessary in order to fully understand the behaviour of such arrays. One of these studies is the impact of the ambient turbulence on the behaviour of marine current turbines. Indeed recent studies have shown that ambient turbulence intensity highly modifies the behaviour of horizontal axis marine current turbines. Consequently numerical simulations have to represent the ambient turbulence or at least its effects on the performance and wake of the turbines. An other one of these studies is the assessment of interaction effect between turbines in close proximity. In order to highlight these interaction effects, experiments were...

Paris, P; Genin, D; Hamelin, P.
Our purpose in this paper is to study the behaviour of composite materials reinforced by glass satin weave 8 fabric under the impact of a projectile. The first part of this paper deals with experimental tests carried out using a servo-hydraulic machine. The hydraulic ram can be programmed to impact the specimen at any desired velocity between a few tenths of a millimetre per minute and 20 m/s. In the second part, these experimental results are compared with the numerical results of bidimensional finite difference code AUTODYN. This program allows the numerical simulation of the penetration of composite plates by projectiles.

Carlier, Clement; Mycek, Paul; Gaurier, Benoit; Germain, Gregory; Pinon, Gregory; Rivoalen, Elie.
