This experiment was conducted to study on single cell protein production from pineapple peel by Sacharomyces cerevisiae and Bacillus subtilis as animal feedstuff. The experimental design was 4 x 3 factorial in CRD experiment with two factors. The factor A was comprised fermented period (0, 15, 30 and 45 day). While, the factor B was comprised of type of microorganism (Sacharomyces cerevisiae, Bacillus subtilis and Sacharomyces cerevisiae combined with Bacillus subtilis). The results showed that interaction between factor A and Factor B on incubation pH 3.88-4.16, temperature 28.62-29.78 C and yield 11.22-16.94 % were highly significantly (P<0.01). For nutrients composition, the group was fermented Sacharomyces cerevisiae combined with Bacillus subtilis...

Studies on production of single cell protein by Aspergillus niger in solid state fermentation of rice bran BABT
Anupama,; Ravindra,Pogaku.
An attempt was made to apply the solid state fermentation (SSF) for the production of single cell protein (SCP) using oil free rice bran waste as substrate. A local isolate of Aspergillus niger, was used as protein source for the studies. Total proteins were extracted to estimate the mycelial biomass from the moldy bran. Carbonate-bicarbonate extraction buffer and a pH 10 was found to be most efficient among the buffers used for the extraction of the proteins from the organism. The effect of supplementation by various sources of nitrogen and mineral solution on the final biomass yield was compared. The influence of C/N ratio on the protein yield was also studied. Sodium nitrate at C/N ratio of 1.387 was found to be an effective nitrogen-supplementing...

Evaluation of the composition of culture medium for yeast biomass production using raw glycerol from biodiesel synthesis BJM
Santos,Elisane Odriosolla dos; Michelon,Mariano; Furlong,Eliana Badiale; Burkert,Janaína Fernandes de Medeiros; Kalil,Susana Juliano; Burkert,Carlos André Veiga.
The work herewith investigated the production of yeast biomass as a source of protein, using Yarrowia lipolytica NRRL YB-423 and raw glycerol from biodiesel synthesis as the main carbon source. A significant influence of glycerol concentration, initial pH and yeast extract concentration on biomass and protein content was observed according to the 2v5-1 fractional design. These factors were further evaluated using a central composite design and response surface methodology, and an empirical model for protein content was established and validated. The biomass of Yarrowia lipolytica NRRL YB-423 reached 19.5 ± 1.0 g/L in shaken flasks cultivation, with a protein content of 20.1 ± 0.6% (w/w).

Effect of single cell protein as a protein source in Drosophila culture BJM
Uysal,Handan; Aydogan,M. Nuri; Algur,O. Faruk.
The effects of biomass of Phanerochaete chrysosporium at various concentrations (1; 2.5; 5; 10; 25; 50; 75 and 100%) on the growth of Drosophila melanogaster have been investigated. Biomass was used as a protein source instead of corn flour in Standard Drosophila Medium(SDM). It was seen that it causes increments in both body size of larvae and the numbers of offsprings, especially at higher concentrations (50, 75 and 100%). At the application of 100% concentration, metamorphosis accelerated and was completed one day before the control. There were phenotipic abnormalities in both control (0.64%) and applications with low concentrations (0.02-0.19%), while they were not observed at the application of 100% concentration
