The region of Areiópolis in São Paulo State is one of the major sugarcane producers in the world, and chemical management is the basis of the system making its production viable. Thus, the proposed methods for precision agriculture can be evaluated as an alternative for environment protection and can aid the search for greater productivity at the same time. The main objective of the present work was to compare the precision agriculture (PA) and traditional agriculture (TA) management systems and to highlight their distinctions, such as differences in grid sampling, production variation, plant failure and costs. Two experiments were set up, and the soil fertilizers were applied by corrective application methods to 16-ha lots using the average general...

Spatial soil sampling design using apparent soil electrical conductivity measurements Bragantia
Siqueira,Glécio Machado; Dafonte,Jorge Dafonte; González,Antonio Paz; Vázquez,Eva Vidal; Armesto,Monteserrat Valcarcel; Guedes Filho,Osvaldo.
ABSTRACT Soil sampling is an important stage of digital soil mapping. The objective of this study was to characterize the spatial design of soil sampling using soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) and its optimized spatial sampling. For the characterization, it was used the Spatial Simulated Annealing (SSA) technique, incorporated on the software SANOS 0.1, and the method of response surface sampling design on the software ESAP 2.35. The ECa was measured at 1,887 points in an area of 6 ha located in the northwestern region of Spain. The EM38-DD equipment (Geonics Limited 2005) was used at 2 depths: vertical dipole (1.5 m effective measurement depth) and horizontal dipole (0.75 m effective measurement depth). Semivariogram showed trend for ECa in...

SPATIAL DEPENDENCE DEGREE AND SAMPLING NEIGHBORHOOD INFLUENCE ON INTERPOLATION PROCESS FOR FERTILIZER PRESCRIPTION MAPS REA
Amaral,Lucas R. do; Justina,Diego D. Della.
ABSTRACT Data interpolation is widely required in precision agriculture. However, its effectiveness is a function of the characteristics of the dataset, being necessary for the evaluation of several parameters. This study aimed to identify how the spatial interpolators, Kriging, and Inverse Distance Weighting, are influenced by the degree of spatial dependence of the variables analyzed and the number of neighbors considered in the interpolation process (sampling neighborhood). Soil samples were collected from three sugarcane fields. By the optimization process, we verified that the sampling neighborhood influences the accuracy of interpolations, but there is not a standard recommendation to follow. Thus, the best sampling neighborhood must ever be...

Corassa,Geomar Mateus; Santi,Antônio Luís; Silva,Vanderlei Rodrigues da; Baron,Felipe Arthur; Reimche,Geovane Boschmann; Fioresi,Dejales; Flora,Diandra Pinto Della.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to identify soil chemical attributes restricting grain yield in Oxisols under the no-tillage system, using directed soil sampling. High, medium, and low yield zones were defined in two agricultural fields using historical yield data of several crops. The yield zones were defined based on the harvest maps of the following crops: corn in 2008/2009, white oat in 2009, and corn in 2012/2013 in field I, with 117.70 ha; and corn in 2009/2010, soybean in 2010/2011, and wheat in 2012 in field II, with 107.30 ha. Soil sampling points were georeferenced in each yield zone, where samples were collected at eight soil depths, spaced 0.05 m apart, totaling 80 variables. Low yields were associated with low cation exchange...

Adoption and Abandonment of Precision Soil Sampling in Cotton Production AgEcon
Walton, Jonathan C.; Lambert, Dayton M.; Roberts, Roland K.; Larson, James A.; English, Burton C.; Larkin, Sherry L.; Martin, Steven W.; Marra, Michele C.; Paxton, Kenneth W.; Reeves, Jeanne M..
Adoption of precision agriculture technology has arrived considerable attention, but abandonment has received little. This paper identified factors motivating adoption and abandonment of precision soils sampling in cotton. Younger producers who farmed more cotton area, owned more of their cropland, planted more non-cotton area, or used a computer were more likely to adopt precision soil sampling. Those with more cotton area or who owned livestock were more likely to abandon, while those who used precision soil sampling longer, or used variable-rate fertilizer application were less likely to abandon precision soil sampling.

Sampling Layer for Soil Fertility Evaluation in Long-Term No-Tillage Systems Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Vieira,Renan Costa Beber; Fontoura,Sandra Mara Vieira; Bayer,Cimélio; Ernani,Paulo Roberto; Anghinoni,Ibanor; Moraes,Renato Paulo de.
ABSTRACT In no-tillage (NT) systems, there is no plowed layer since the soil is not tilled. Thus, the soil layer for fertility evaluation can be defined as the one in which the fertility indices are affected by the surface application of lime and fertilizers and soil properties have the closest relationship with crop yields. The objective of this study was to determine the most appropriate soil layer under long-term NT for sampling for fertility evaluation in the South-Central region of Paraná, Brazil. A total of 99 field experiments of crop rotations were performed, including soybean, corn, barley, wheat, and white oat, all on Oxisols (Hapludox). Despite the surface application, lime and fertilizers increased base saturation (V) and available K to a depth...

Spatial variability of the chemical, physical and biological properties in lowland cultivated with irrigated rice Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Parfitt,José Maria Barbat; Timm,Luís Carlos; Pauletto,Eloy Antonio; Sousa,Rogério Oliveira de; Castilhos,Danilo Dufech; Ávila,Conceição Lagos de; Reckziegel,Nestor Luis.
In the areas where irrigated rice is grown in the south of Brazil, few studies have been carried out to investigate the spatial variability structure of soil properties and to establish new forms of soil management as well as determine soil corrective and fertilizer applications. In this sense, this study had the objective of evaluating the spatial variability of chemical, physical and biological soil properties in a lowland area under irrigated rice cultivation in the conventional till system. For this purpose, a 10 x 10 m grid of 100 points was established, in an experimental field of the Embrapa Clima Temperado, in the County of Capão do Leão, State of Rio Grande do Sul. The spatial variability structure was evaluated by geostatistical tools and the...

Santos,Eduardo Oliveira de Jesus; Gontijo,Ivoney; Silva,Marcelo Barreto da; Partelli,Fábio Luiz.
ABSTRACT Establishing the number of samples required to determine values of soil physical properties ultimately results in optimization of labor and allows better representation of such attributes. The objective of this study was to analyze the spatial variability of soil physical properties in a Conilon coffee field and propose a soil sampling method better attuned to conditions of the management system. The experiment was performed in a Conilon coffee field in Espírito Santo state, Brazil, under a 3.0 × 2.0 × 1.0 m (4,000 plants ha-1) double spacing design. An irregular grid, with dimensions of 107 × 95.7 m and 65 sampling points, was set up. Soil samples were collected from the 0.00-0.20 m depth from each sampling point. Data were analyzed under...

Variability of soil fertility properties in areas planted to sugarcane in the State of Goias, Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Cardoso,José Avelino; Lacerda,Marilusa Pinto Coelho; Rein,Thomaz Adolpho; Santos Junior,João de Deus Gomes dos; Figueiredo,Cícero Célio de.
Soil sampling should provide an accurate representation of a given area so that recommendations for amendments of soil acidity, fertilization and soil conservation may be drafted to increase yield and improve the use of inputs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the variability of soil fertility properties of Oxisols in areas planted to sugarcane in the State of Goias, Brazil. Two areas of approximately 8,100 m² each were selected, representing two fields of the Goiasa sugarcane mill in Goiatuba. The sugarcane crop had a row spacing of 1.5 m and subsamples were taken from 49 points in the row and 49 between the row with a Dutch auger at depths of 0.0-0.2 and 0.2-0.4 m, for a total of 196 subsamples for each area. The samples were individually subjected...

Different collecting methods reveal different ecological groups of centipedes (Chilopoda) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Tuf,Ivan Hadrián.
ABSTRACT Soil invertebrates are studied by a number of methods. Here we used zoological methods (soil sampling, pitfall trapping, litter sifting, and hand collecting) to sample centipede communities in four floodplain forests (Czech Republic, Europe) and compared the efficiency of these methods. Heat-extraction from soil samples was the most effective, followed by pitfall trapping. The centipedes found by us can be divided into five ecological groups: 1) larger, abundant lithobiomorphs, 2) larger, scarcer lithobiomorphs, 3) smaller, soil lithobiomorphs, 4) abundant geophilomorphs, and 5) scarcer geophilomorphs.
