Agri-food Trade Specialisation Pattern in the New EU Member States AgEcon
Drabik, Dusan; Bartova, Lubica.
The paper analyses development of agri-food trade specialisation pattern in eight EU Member States of the 2004 and 2007 enlargements (NMS) during the period 2000 – 2005. Over the period analysed, the NMS were not able to hold trade positions in the most competitive commodities, but on the other hand, positions of a number of previously uncompetitive commodities improved. We show convergence of dynamism of agri-food trade specialisation across NMS in trade with the partners/groupings investigated.

A MINŐSÉG A MAGYAR HÚSIPAR VERSENYKÉPESSÉGÉBEN AgEcon
Nagy-Percsi, Kinga.
A tanulmány elkészítésének alapját az engedélyezett, illetve a jóváhagyott és derogációs húsüzemek körében 2005. év végén és 2006. év elején elkészített kér-dőíves felmérés adta. A márkázott húsprogramok fő problémáját leginkább a márkázott termékek iránti hazai fizetőképes kereslet hiányában látják. Ettől kis mértékben marad el a programokhoz kapcsolódó elégtelen promóció, ami kiemeli az összefogás, a közösen végzett promóció szükségességét a versenyképesség növelése érdekében. A multinacionális láncok árleszorító törekvései és a növekvő költségek hatá-sára kialakult kisebb jövedelemtermelő képességet a húsipari cégek részben a beruházások visszafogásával ellensúlyozzák, mégpedig azokon a területeken, me-lyek nem kifejezetten az előírásoknak...

Assessing the Implications of EU Enlargement for CEEC Agri-food Trade Specialisation AgEcon
Drabik, Dusan; Bartova, Lubica.
The goal of the paper is to analyse agri-food trade specialisation in seven Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) with their trade groupings over the period 2000-2005, prior to and after their accession to the EU. For these CEECs, we found high agri-food trade specialisation in a relatively small number of commodities. The most competitive commodities in trade with all trade groupings other than the EU-15 were marked by a fairly high level of processing. Over the analysed period the CEE countries did not maintain positions of the most competitive commodities, but at the same time they improved positions of a number of previously uncompetitive commodities. The competitiveness of CEEC agrifood trade commodities declined over the period analysed.

On the Endogeneity of an Exogenous OCA-Criterion: The Impact of Specialisation on the Synchronisation of Regional Business Cycles in Europe AgEcon
Belke, Ansgar; Heine, Jens M..
This paper empirically assesses the impact of specialisation on the synchronisation of regional business cycles in two core countries of EMU, namely France and Germany. Several specialisation indices are introduced and some first stylised facts about interregional business cycle correlations are derived. Second, region pair specific and pooled estimations are enacted and tested for robustness in order to calculate the impact of specialization on the degree of business cycle synchronisation. However, our regression results confirm the hypothesis of a positive impact only partly, but they underline the problem of a common monetary policy for uncommon regions which has already existed in the DM- and in the Franc-zone before. Der vorliegende empirische Beitrag...
