Performance of spray nozzles in land applications with high speed REA
Zaidan,Samir E.; Gadanha Jr,Casimiro D.; Gandolfo,Marco A.; Pontelli,Cristiano O.; Mosquini,Walter W..
The aim of this study was to evaluate different spray nozzles for land applications in high speed on the coverage and deposit in soybean plants pulverization. It was evaluated the AXI 110 04 plane jet nozzles operated at speed of 4.17m.s-1 (control), the grey APE and the AXI 110 08 plane jets, and the TD HiSpeed 110 06 and AXI TWIN 120 06 twin jets, at speed of 9.72m.s-1. The application volume was fixed in 120L ha-1. The application efficiency was evaluated by two different methods: analysis of the coverage area using fluorescent pigment and UV light and analysis of deposits through the recovery and quantification of FD&C N°1 brilliant blue marker by spectrophotometry. Both analyses were done in samples collected from top, middle and bottom parts of...

Design and performance evaluation of centrifugal cashew nut sheller CIGR Journal
KILANKO, Oluwaseun.
Cashew nut centrifugal shelling machine was designed and constructed. Shelling efficiency and whole kernel recovery was evaluated for hot-oil roasted nuts on the machine. The design was based on the principle of the optimum kinetic energy that could break the cashew nut shell. The deformation energy used was 4.8763 Joules. The angular velocity of the impeller calculated from the energy was 376.12 rad/s which was equal 3592 rpm. The motor power used was more than 917.34 Watts, the minimum power requirement. The prototype of cashew nut sheller was constructed and evaluated for its shelling efficiency and whole kernel recovery using three levels of moisture content (7.00%w.b., 8.46%w.b. and 9.83% w.b.), three levels of impeller speeds and three grades (large,...

Speeds and stance of titanosaur sauropods: analysis of Titanopodus tracks from the Late Cretaceous of Mendoza, Argentina Anais da ABC (AABC)
González Riga,Bernardo J..
Speed estimations from trackways of Titanopodus mendozensis González Riga and Calvo provide information about the locomotion of titanosaurian sauropods that lived in South America during the Late Cretaceous. Titanopodus ichnites were found at Agua del Choique, a newly discovered track site in the Loncoche Formation, Late Campanian-Early Maastrichtian of Mendoza, Argentina. This speed study follows the hypothesis of dynamic similarity proposed by Alexander. As a refinement of this method, a complementary equation is presented here based on an articulated titanosaurian specimen collected in strata that are regarded as correlative to those that have yielded Titanopodus tracks (Allen Formation, Neuquén Basin). This analysis indicates that hip height can be...

Movement patterns of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) reoccupying a Brazilian breeding ground Biota Neotropica
Gonçalves,Maria Isabel Carvalho; Sousa-Lima,Renata Santoro de; Teixeira,Niel Nascimento; Carvalho,Gustavo Henrique; Danilewicz,Daniel; Baumgarten,Júlio Ernesto.
Abstract: The population of humpback whales from breeding stock A is increasing, and little is known about the routes used by humpbacks that move north of the main calving area of Brazil, the Abrolhos Bank. The aim of this study was to describe the movements of humpback whales in a reoccupation wintering area (Serra Grande, Bahia state, Brazil) based on land-based surveys to test if movement patterns change during the season and between years, due to group composition, behavioral state, and distance to the coast. The mean leg speed of the groups sighted was 6.88 (±2.92) km/h, and leg speed was positively correlated with distance to the coast. There was an increase in leg speed and distance to the coast with increasing number of escorts in the groups with...

Association between the increase in brain temperature and physical performance at different exercise intensities and protocols in a temperate environment BJMBR
Kunstetter,A.C.; Wanner,S.P.; Madeira,L.G.; Wilke,C.F.; Rodrigues,L.O.C.; Lima,N.R.V..
There is evidence that brain temperature (Tbrain) provides a more sensitive index than other core body temperatures in determining physical performance. However, no study has addressed whether the association between performance and increases in Tbrain in a temperate environment is dependent upon exercise intensity, and this was the primary aim of the present study. Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to constant exercise at three different speeds (18, 21, and 24 m/min) until the onset of volitional fatigue. Tbrain was continuously measured by a thermistor inserted through a brain guide cannula. Exercise induced a speed-dependent increase in Tbrain, with the fastest speed associated with a higher rate of Tbrain increase. Rats subjected to constant...
