High risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) are recognized as a necessary factor to development cervical cancer. During the last decade many studies have found HR-HPV in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and normal oral mucosa, however the association between HR-HPV and OSCC is still uncertain. The aim of the study was to determine DNA HR-HPV in normal oral cavity of healthy adults. A cross-sectional study was performed; samples from 77 patients with normal oral cavity were collected at the Dentistry school, Autonomous University of Yucatan, Merida, Yucatan, México. HR-HPV was detected by hybrid capture 2. One sample out of 77(1.2%) was positive for HR-PVH. It was from a man of 50 years old. HR-HPV is present in low rate among healthy oral mucosa. Hybrid... |

The tongue is one of the most likely places for the primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) to arise in the western world. This work intends to do a morphometric evaluation of the cellular nucleus, as well as a morphometric analysis of the nucleolar organizer regions (NORs). The biopsy specimen was removed from patients with tongue SCC, staged T2N0M0, before they underwent treatment. They were, then, subject to hemiglossectomy and supraomohyoid neck dissection (SOHND) and presented different clinical evolution. According to that, they were subdivided in three groups: Group A, control group, formed by patients without tongue neoplasm (the histopathologic specimen was obtained from the Department of Pathology at Hospital de Base and Faculdade de Medicina de Sao... |

In this report,a canine carcinoma was so far successfully treated by CUL treatment, an injection of suspention of an anti-cancer drug and contrast medium directly into the tumor. A nine-year-old spayed female golden retriever was brought to us with the main complaint of a mass in the oral cavity. The cytodiagnosis of the tumor was a squamous cell carcinoma. After palliative surgical resection of the mass, the dog was treated with intratumoral administration of cisplatin. The release of cisplatin was slowed by mixing it with poppyseed oil ethylesteres iodide (CUL treatment). After the CUL treatment was started, there was little growth of the twnor and no systemic side effects. A good QOL was maintained for 24 months after discovery of the mass. This case... |
