Transcriptional activity of the 5'-flanking region of the thyroid transcription factor-1 gene in human thyroid cell lines Genet. Mol. Biol.
Yamada,Hiroya; Takano,Toru; Matsuzuka,Fumio; Watanabe,Mikio; Miyauchi,Akira; Iwatani,Yoshinori.
Thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1, NKX2-1) is a homeodomain-containing transcriptional factor that binds to and activates the promoters of thyroid and lung-specific genes, such as thyroglobulin, thyroid peroxidase, and thyroid stimulating hormone receptor. TTF-1 is known to play a key role in the development of the thyroid. However, the precise mechanism of TTF-1 gene transcription in human thyroid cells has not been studied. The expression of transcriptional activity in various lengths of the 5'-flanking region of the human TTF -1 gene was studied in TTF-1 positive and negative human thyroid cell lines. Increased transcriptional activity was observed in thyroid cell lines containing plasmids that coded for a sequence proximal to the transcription...

Stem Cells and Androgen Receptor in Human Periapical Periodontitis International Journal of Morphology
Rodríguez,H; Espinoza-Navarro,O; Peñafiel,C; Escobar,E; Silva,I; Quiroz,P; Arriaza,C; Castro,M. E; Sánchez,C; Arias,M; Michea,A.
Activation of macrophages in periapical granulomas occurs through the presence of cytokines, endotoxin and other genetic and epigenetic factors, allowing the initiation of inflammation and bone resorption. The present study aims to analyze the presence of CD133 protein (marker of stem cells) and the AR (androgen receptor) protein in biopsies of human odontogenic periapical granuloma. Biopsies from 14 adult male patients with diagnosis of periapical granuloma included in paraffin blocks were processed histologically to obtain 5-µm thick sections. Protein presence was detected and analyzed by immunohistochemistry of CD133 and AR. The quantification considered the number of positive cells in 0.17 mm2 random areas under the microscope using a 1000X objective....

Caracterización Morfológica, Génica y Protéica en la Diferenciación de Células Madre Embrionarias de Ratón a Células Pancreáticas Tempranas International Journal of Morphology
Vázquez-Zapién,G. J; Sánchez Monroy,V; Chirino López,Y. I; Mata-Miranda,M. M.

Effects of Lipokit® Centrifugation on Morphology and Resident Cells of Adipose Tissue International Journal of Morphology
Duman,Selcuk; Aktan,Tahsin Murad; Cuce,Gokhan; Cihantimur,Bulent; Tokac,Mehmet; Akbulut,Habip.
The aim of adipose tissue engineering is creating autologus vascularized fat tissue to be used for practical soft tissue reconstruction in human clinic. Unfortunately, in practice, long-term results of fat transplantation are often untrustworthy and unreliable, to overcome this problem different many lipoinjection techniques developed in the last 20 years. Centrifuge is a fundamental stepin the preparation of adipose tissue. We focused on some cell markers especially MSCs markers and histological structural properties after with lipokit centrifugation and without lipokit centrifugation of adipose tissue obtained by liposuction by this new technique. Adipose tissue was taken by liposuction and separates to two portions. One of them is centrifugated by...

Excision of sclerocorneal limbus in dogs and resulting clinical events: study of an experimental model Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Brunelli,A.T.J.; Vicenti,F.A.M.; Oriá,A.; Campos,C.F.; Doria Neto,F.A.; Laus,J.L..
The consequences of complete removal of the sclerocorneal limbus epithelium were evaluated, as well as the model for such, in which n-heptanol and superficial keratectomy were used. The association of n-heptanol and keratectomy allowed a complete excision of stem cells. Moreover, the destruction of these cells led to significant tectonic alterations that could be employed as a feasible model for clinical experimentation of corneal transplantation.

Cell therapy in dilated cardiomyopathy: from animal models to clinical trials BJMBR
del Corsso,C.; Campos de Carvalho,A.C..
Dilated cardiomyopathy can be the end-stage form and common denominator of several cardiac disorders of known cause, such as hypertensive, ischemic, diabetic and Chagasic diseases. However, some individuals have clinical findings, such as an increase in ventricular chamber size and impaired contractility (classical manifestations of dilated cardiomyopathy) even in the absence of a diagnosed primary disease. In these patients, dilated cardiomyopathy is classified as idiopathic since its etiology is obscure. Nevertheless, regardless of all of the advances in medical, pharmacological and surgical procedures, the fate of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (of idiopathic or of any other known cause) is linked to arrhythmic episodes, severe congestive heart...

Secondary prevention of type 1 diabetes mellitus: stopping immune destruction and promoting ß-cell regeneration BJMBR
Couri,C.E.B.; Foss,M.C.; Voltarelli,J.C..
Type 1 diabetes mellitus results from a cell-mediated autoimmune attack against pancreatic ß-cells. Traditional treatments involve numerous daily insulin dosages/injections and rigorous glucose control. Many efforts toward the identification of ß-cell precursors have been made not only with the aim of understanding the physiology of islet regeneration, but also as an alternative way to produce ß-cells to be used in protocols of islet transplantation. In this review, we summarize the most recent studies related to precursor cells implicated in the regeneration process. These include embryonic stem cells, pancreas-derived multipotent precursors, pancreatic ductal cells, hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, hepatic oval cells, and mature ß-cells....

Human dental pulp stem cell adhesion and detachment in polycaprolactone electrospun scaffolds under direct perfusion BJMBR
Paim,A.; Braghirolli,D.I.; Cardozo,N.S.M.; Pranke,P.; Tessaro,I.C..
Cell adhesion in three-dimensional scaffolds plays a key role in tissue development. However, stem cell behavior in electrospun scaffolds under perfusion is not fully understood. Thus, an investigation was made on the effect of flow rate and shear stress, adhesion time, and seeding density under direct perfusion in polycaprolactone electrospun scaffolds on human dental pulp stem cell detachment. Polycaprolactone scaffolds were electrospun using a solvent mixture of chloroform and methanol. The viable cell number was determined at each tested condition. Cell morphology was analyzed by confocal microscopy after various incubation times for static cell adhesion with a high seeding density. Scanning electron microscopy images were obtained before and after...
