Trophic structure of a fish community in Bananal stream subbasin in Brasília National Park, Cerrado biome (Brazilian Savanna), DF Neotropical Ichthyology
Schneider,Mariana; Aquino,Pedro De Podestà Uchôa de; Silva,Maria Júlia Martins; Fonseca,Claudia Padovesi.
The aim of this study was to determine the trophic structure of the fish community in the Bananal stream subbasin, which belongs to a well-preserved Cerrado area (Brazilian Savanna) in Brasília National Park, Brazil. We also evaluated the influence of environmental variations in the diet of fish species. Four samples were taken in each 30 m long established transect, two in the rainy season and two in the dry season. A total of 1,050 stomachs of the 13 most abundant species were analyzed. A total of 36 food items were consumed, where 24 were autochthonous, 8 allochthonous, and 4 of undetermined origin. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) analysis, in addition to the results of frequency of occurrence and abundance charts, was used to determine four...

Ecology of Phallotorynus pankalos (Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliidae) in a first-order stream of the upper Paraná Basin Neotropical Ichthyology
Súarez,Yzel R.; Silva,João Paulo da; Vasconcelos,Lilian P.; Antonialli-Júnior,William Fernando.
Some aspects of the population ecology of Phallotorynus pankalos in a first-order stream of the Iguatemi River Basin are described based on samples taken from March/2007 to February/2008. A total of 2680 individuals, including 948 males and 1732 females was collected. Adult females are larger than males; theirs mean fecundity was estimated as 6.5 embryos/female. There was a strong correlation between standard length and ovary weight, relative ovary weight, and number of embryos. The size of the first maturation of 50% of female population was estimated as 18.24 mm of standard lenght. High female mortality was observed after the first reproduction and sex ratio presents seasonal variation with higher female proportion in the winter.

Diet of two syntopic species of Crenuchidae (Ostariophysi: Characiformes) in an Amazonian rocky stream Biota Neotropica
Fernandes,Suzanne; Leitão,Rafael Pereira; Dary,Eurizângela Pereira; Guerreiro,Ana Isabel Camacho; Zuanon,Jansen; Bührnheim,Cristina Motta.
Abstract This study assessed the diet of two poorly known syntopic fish species of the family Crenuchidae, Characidium aff. declivirostre and Leptocharacidium omospilus, in a Presidente Figueiredo´ rocky stream, Amazonas, Brazil. The stomach contents were analyzed and their Frequency of Occurrence (FO %) and Relative Volume (Vol %) were combined in a Feeding Index (IAi). We examined 20 individuals of C. aff. declivirostre and 23 of L. omospilus. The Morisita-Horn Index was used to estimate the overlap between the diets of these species. Immature insects were the most valuable items consumed by both fish species. The diet of C. aff. declivirostre was mainly composed of larvae and pupae of Chironomidae, while L. omospilus predominantly consumed larvae of...
