Prevention aspects for avoiding rollover incidents together for tractors, self-propelled harvesting and material handling machinery CIGR Journal
Mayrhofer, Hannes; Quendler, Elisabeth; Boxberger, Josef.
Abstract: Tractors, self-propelled harvesting and material handling machines are the most commonly used self-propelled machineries in Austrian agriculture that have similarities in main rollover incident causes.  The aim of this study was to present sustainable prevention measures against rollovers together for tractors, self-propelled harvesting and material handling machinery based on a new machine evaluation, manufacturer surveys and a literature research.  New machines were investigated concerning their compliance with legal regulations and concerning their current rollover prevention equipment.  By interviewing manufacturers of tractors, self-propelled harvesting machinery and material handling machinery, the challenges with implementing safety...

Bees (Hymenoptera: Apoidea) and flowers in natural forest patches of southern Pantanal Biota Neotropica
Boff,Samuel; Araujo,Andréa Cardoso; Pott,Arnildo.
This is the first systematic survey of bees in the Pantanal wetland, Brazil. We recorded bee species and their floral resources within grassland and natural forest edge habitats in the Pantanal. Surveys were conducted during two to four-days per month, for a total of 12 months. Overall, we recorded 56 bee species visiting a total of 63 flowering plants. Asteraceae and Fabaceae presented the highest number of visited species, however Hyptis suaveolens (Lamiaceae) was the plant most visited by different bee species (18). The most generalist native bee was Trigona fuscipennis visiting a total of 17 flowering plant species. Apis mellifera, an exotic bee, visited 27 species. We also report the overlap (37.5%) in the use of floral resources between the exotic...

Trends in drug use among students in Brazil: analysis of four surveys in 1987, 1989, 1993 and 1997 BJMBR
Galduróz,J.C.F.; Noto,A.R.; Nappo,S.A.; Carlini,E.A..
The consumption of psychotropic drugs among Brazilian secondary school students was examined by comparing data from four surveys using a questionnaire adapted from the WHO's Program on Research and Reporting on the Epidemiology of Drug Dependence. Students filled out the form in their classrooms without the presence of teachers. The target population consisted of 10-18-year-old students (on average, 15,000 students responded to each survey) in Brazil's ten largest state capitals: Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and São Paulo. Among the legal drugs, lifetime use (use at least once during life) of tobacco was increased in seven cities (the exceptions were Brasília, Porto Alegre and Rio de...

Understanding cultural dimensions of human/environment relationships is now widely seen as key to effective management, yet characterizing these dimensions remains a challenge. We report on an approach for considering the nonmaterial values associated with ecosystems, i.e., cultural ecosystem services. We applied the approach in Kona, Hawai‘i, using 30 semistructured interviews and 205 in-person surveys, striving to balance pragmatism and depth. We found spirituality, heritage, and identity-related values to be particularly salient, with expression of some of these values varying among respondents by ethnicity and duration of residence in Hawai‘i. Although people of various backgrounds reported strong spirituality and heritage-related...

Who Benefits from Recreational Use of Protected Areas? Ecology and Society
Booth, Josephine E; Biodiversity and Macroecology Group, Department of Animal and Plant Sciences, University of Sheffield; Sheffield Hallam University; Josephine.booth@shu.ac.uk; Gaston, Kevin J; Biodiversity and Macroecology Group, Department of Animal and Plant Sciences, University of Sheffield; k.j.gaston@sheffield.ac.uk; Armsworth, Paul R; Biodiversity and Macroecology Group, Department of Animal and Plant Sciences, University of Sheffield; University of Tennessee; p.armsworth@utk.edu.
Public support for protected areas depends, in part, upon clear demonstrations of the importance of the ecosystem services provided by these areas. However, only a limited number of studies have examined the value of protected areas in providing these services, and even less work has assessed how equitably these benefits are distributed across society. We used on-site surveys to characterize people who derived recreational benefit from a set of areas in the United Kingdom that were originally protected for their conservation value. We found that an unrepresentative subset of society enjoyed this benefit. Site visitor populations were biased towards older people and men, and minority groups were starkly underrepresented, comprising only 1% of overall...

Utilisation de l'écho-intégration en recherche halieutique (Analyse de 5 campagnes effectuées dans le Golfe de Gascogne de 1983 à 1987) ArchiMer
Masse, Jacques.
Afler a short review of acoustic principles, methodology and purposes of accustic surveys are described and some examples given. IFREMER instrumentation, strategy and calculations used during echo sur veys are  described in details and criticized. Five acouslic sur veys carried o t in the Bay of Biscay between 1983 and 1987 show that several species are generally mixed , and lheir identification is very oflen biased by behaviour phenomena. A new way of classi fying echotraces and interpretating data has been applied to these surveys. The results are summarized in tables and maps. Whenever multispecies structures are concerned, it seems at present impossible to assess absolute biomasses based on acoustic survey method. ln such a situation, acoustic surveys...

SRo112: an improved mapmaking approach to reduce large-scale systematic effects in the Planck High Frequency Instrument legacy maps ArchiMer
Delouis, Jean Marc; Pagano, L.; Mottet, S.; Puget, J-l; Vibert, L..
This paper describes an improved map making approach with respect to the one used for the Planck High Frequency Instrument 2018 Legacy release. The algorithm SRo112 better corrects the known instrumental effects that still affected mostly the polarized large-angular-scale data by distorting the signal, and/or leaving residuals observable in null tests. The main systematic effect is the nonlinear response of the onboard analog-to-digital convertors that was cleaned in the Planck HFI Legacy release as an empirical time-varying linear detector chain response which is the first-order effect. The SRo112 method fits the model parameters for higher-order effects and corrects the full distortion of the signal. The model parameters are fitted using the redundancies...

La pêche aux petits metiers en Languedoc-Roussillon en 2000 - 2001 ArchiMer
Guillou, Alain; Lespagnol, Patrick; Ruchon, François.
"Small trades" refers to the body of fishing boats, excepting the trawlers, which have a trawling license and the tuna/sardine boats, which have a pelagic fishing license. The ships that fish for small pelagic fish by using a lamp are only included for the other trades they ply, if applicable. Whereas certain "small trades" work offshore, the majority of them exploit the lagoons and coastal area. The importance of the coastal areas in general, where a large number of biological and ecological processes are being developed, need no longer be demonstrated: A large part of primary and secondary production takes place in these areas, which host moreover many reproduction and nursery sites for a great many species. "Small trade" fishing is one of the main...

Shedding light on the river and sea lamprey in western European marine waters ArchiMer
Elliott, Sam; Deleys, Noemie; Rivot, E; Acou, A; Réveillac, E; Beaulaton, L.
Lampreys are ancestral jawless vertebrates with particularly complex life histories. Population declines resulting from increased anthropogenic pressure have been observed. For semelparous diadromous lampreys, the marine phase remains largely a black box, making targeted management and conservation measures difficult to implement. Here, we collated a database of 168904 hauls from both fisheries-dependent and fisheries-independent surveys between 1965 and 2019. Lampreys were observed in only 254 hauls (<1% lamprey presence); 421 sea lamprey Petromyzon marinus and 300 European river lamprey Lampetra fluviatilis were identified. Sizes ranged from 13 to 92 cm and from 14 to 42 cm, respectively. The majority of lampreys (61%) were caught by mobile demersal...

Observatoires sismiques sur le fond de la mer ArchiMer
Avedik, Felix.
Detecting and localizing nuclear blasts was an essential stimulus of the actions undertaken in the 1960's to emplace seismological observatories on the seafloor. The plate-tectonic theory, in which the oceanic areas play a major role, greatly accelerated the evolution of modern oceanology. The contribution of Ifremer's department of Marine Geosciences, in helping to advance this area of research, has been significant since 1972. The need for refraction studies to explore the deep structure of the margins and ocean-continent transition zones led us to design a deep-sea Ocean Bottom Seismograph (OBS) MK I in 1975, rated to 6,000 metres depth. This system introduced, for the first time, the concept of "isolated seismic sensors". This principle was adopted...

Survey of the Marine Science Community on IODE (polled 29 October – 3 December 2004) OceanDocs
In view of the ongoing review of IODE, the planned development of an IOC data management strategy and the preparations of the JCOMM strategy it is important that the IODE data and information management community thinks about the prioritization of IODE activities and projects. There are currently a significant number of global and regional projects. Some of these are funded through donors but many require IOC funding. As the funding for IODE for the UNESCO regular programme is not likely to increase it is necessary to reflect on what the international oceanographic community opinion is about IODE. Between 29 October – 3 December 2004 a web-based survey was made available to international oceanographic community around the world. The IOC undertook this...
