"Economic results achieved by a selected group of organic farms in Poland in 2004" Organic Eprints
Nachtman, Grażyna; Żekało, Marcin.
Abstract: Organic farming is becoming more and more popular among Polish farmers. In the year of the accession of Poland to the European Union, the number of certified organic farms amounted to 1683. By the end of 2005, which is after the first year of Poland’s membership in the EU, the number of farms practicing exclusively organic farming or taking up that course of production amounted to more than 7000. On the basis of agricultural accountancy from 2004, an economic and production evaluation of 110 organic farms included in the Polish FADN sample was carried out. The organic farms were classified into 5 classes of economic size. 92% of them were of economic size below 16 ESU. The study contains economic and production results achieved by a group of...

Organic in Europe: Prospects and Developments Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Meredith, Stephen; Moeskops, Bram; Busacca, Emanuele.
In 2016/2017 the European organic food and farming sector continued to excel both in terms of organic production and market growth as well as the latest developments in European Union (EU) food and farming policy. Data for 2016 shows the European organic food market recording significant growth – increasing by 11.4 percent (EU: 12.0 percent). At the same time, the organic sector faces a number of challenges, notably that the growth rates in organic production continue to lag behind the dynamic growth seen within the organic food market. In the public policy arena at the EU level, there are some opportunities for the organic sector to capitalise on the growing awareness and interest in tackling sustainability concerns in the agri-food sector amongst...

Factors affecting profitability of organic farms (OF0155) Organic Eprints
Institute of Rural Sciences,.
Financial Factors The importance of price premiums for profitability has been clearly established for cropping farms. The lack of availability of price premiums for livestock products means that the importance of price premiums in livestock systems to overall financial success has not been established. There is some indication that the success of organic farms is likely to depend on the successful management of internal resources; the diversity of the farming business might aid this, but no studies have established any clear indicators or relationships. The total variable costs might give some indication and would be expected to be low where the internal utilisation of non-marketable goods, such as fertility, nutrients and forage, is efficient....

Panel performance: Modelling variation in sensory profiling data by multiway analysis Organic Eprints
Romano, Rosaria; Vestergaard, Jannie S.; Bredie, Wender L. P..
Sensory profiling data is essentially three-way data where samples, attributes and assessors are the three dimensions of information. It is common practice to average over the assessors and focus the analysis on the relations between samples and sensory descriptors. However, since assessor reliability can not be controlled in advance, posthoc analysis on assessors is needed to assess performance of the individual and at the panel level. For this purpose, multiway analysis is a very efficient data method as it provides information on samples, attributes and assessors, simultaneously [1]. PARAllel FACtor (PARAFAC) analysis is one of the most used multiway methods in sensory analysis [2][3]. It is based on two basic assumptions: 1) there exist latent...

Aufbau eines europäischen Informationssystems für den Öko-Markt Organic Eprints
Hamm, Prof. Dr. Ulrich; Recke, Dr. Guido.
While sufficient statistical data in the conventional food market enables decision-makers to opt for investments or policies on a well-founded basis, this data is lacking in the organic food market. A European Concerted Action project in co-operation with the EU statistical office, EUROSTAT, and funded by the European Union aims there-fore at developing a framework for collection and processing reliable and comprehen-sive data on organic markets. The first phase of the project with the aim of analysing the current situation and developing proposals is accomplished. The results are a number of detailed and specific suggestions to improve the data situation on the national and international level.

Organic products – the choice of bulgarian mothers Organic Eprints
Ivanova, Daniela; Vassileva, Elka; Stefanov, Stiliyan; Tipova, Nina.
The goal of the presented survey is to analyse the perceptions and attitudes of the group of mothers with small children as consumers of organic products. The self–administered questionnaire survey method in the form of anonymous interviews following a standardised questionnaire was used for the purposes of the survey. Within the course of this research their knowledge and understanding of organic foods and foods’ attributes as a motive for purchase were examined. Complete analysis of data is done on the basis of purchase of organic foods: frequency of purchase of organic foods specially marked as such; buying as result of special demand for organic products; willingness of consumers to pay a higher price for organic foods.

D4.4 Final revised database Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Schaack, Diana.
In the framework of the OrganicDataNetwork project and internal project database was established in order to store the data collected in the two survey rounds of the OrganicDataNetwork project (Willer and Schaack 2013 and 2014). The database builds on the one that the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) use for their organic data collection activities. However, this database was considerably expanded during the OrganicDataNetwork project. This document explains the features of the internal OrganicDataNetwork database and how the data can be acceded.

Organic farm incomes in England and Wales 2011/12 (OF0373) Organic Eprints
Moakes, Simon; Lampkin, Nicolas; Gerrard, Catherine L.
This report presents results of research on the financial performance of organic farms in the 2011/12 financial year (with 2010/11 data for reference). Carried out for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), this research continues project OF0373 and builds on previous work on the economics of organic farming carried out at Aberystwyth University (Projects OF0190, covering 1995/96 to 1998/99 and OF0189, covering 1999/00 to 2004/05)1. This report utilises data collected through the Farm Business Survey in England and Wales. An analysis of the FBS/Defra Data Archive for 2011/12 found a total of 251 businesses with some organic land. To ensure the analysis undertakes a reasonable comparison of organic and conventional farms, the...

Inventory of data collecting and publishing institutions(= Deliverable 2.1 of the OrganicDataNetwork project: Report on data collectors) Organic Eprints
Gerrard, Catherine L; Vieweger, Anja; Padel, Susanne.
Despite the continuous growth of the organic market in Europe, in most countries only very basic statistics about this sector exist. Individual country governments collect data which are published nationally and by EUROSTAT (the statistical office of the European Union), on the number of certified organic holdings, organic and in-conversion land areas and livestock numbers. Important market statistics, however, such as the amount of production, consumption, retail sales, international trade and prices at the farm or consumer level are lacking in most European countries. To understand the availability of data on the organic market and to assist in improving data quality and availability, it is first necessary to be aware of the organisations that currently...
