Abstract: Organic farming is becoming more and more popular among Polish farmers. In the year of the accession of Poland to the European Union, the number of certified organic farms amounted to 1683. By the end of 2005, which is after the first year of Poland’s membership in the EU, the number of farms practicing exclusively organic farming or taking up that course of production amounted to more than 7000. On the basis of agricultural accountancy from 2004, an economic and production evaluation of 110 organic farms included in the Polish FADN sample was carried out. The organic farms were classified into 5 classes of economic size. 92% of them were of economic size below 16 ESU. The study contains economic and production results achieved by a group of... |

The project European Information System for Organic Markets (EISfOM) is a European Concerted Action, funded under under key action 5 (Quality of Life) of the 5th Framework Research and Technological Development Programme of the European Union. The project will run from 2003 to 2005. EISfOM aims to build up a framework for reporting valid and reliable data for relevant production and market data about the European organic sector in order to meet the needs of policy makers, farmers, processors, wholesalers and other actors involved in organic markets. The major outputs of EISfOM will be - A review of existing data collection systems - Proposals to improve data quality and data collection systems for organic markets - Recommendations for future... |

In 2016/2017 the European organic food and farming sector continued to excel both in terms of organic production and market growth as well as the latest developments in European Union (EU) food and farming policy. Data for 2016 shows the European organic food market recording significant growth – increasing by 11.4 percent (EU: 12.0 percent). At the same time, the organic sector faces a number of challenges, notably that the growth rates in organic production continue to lag behind the dynamic growth seen within the organic food market. In the public policy arena at the EU level, there are some opportunities for the organic sector to capitalise on the growing awareness and interest in tackling sustainability concerns in the agri-food sector amongst... |

Organic agriculture is practiced in 164 countries, and more than 37.5 million hectares of agricultural land are managed organically by 1.9 million farmers. The global sales of organic food and drink reached almost 64 billion US dollars in 2012. The 15th edition of The World of Organic Agriculture documents recent developments in global organic agriculture. It includes contributions from representatives of the organic sector from throughout the world and provides comprehensive organic farming statistics that cover surface area under organic management, specific information about land use in organic systems, numbers of farms and other operator types as well as selected market data. |

Sensory profiling data is essentially three-way data where samples, attributes and assessors are the three dimensions of information. It is common practice to average over the assessors and focus the analysis on the relations between samples and sensory descriptors. However, since assessor reliability can not be controlled in advance, posthoc analysis on assessors is needed to assess performance of the individual and at the panel level. For this purpose, multiway analysis is a very efficient data method as it provides information on samples, attributes and assessors, simultaneously [1]. PARAllel FACtor (PARAFAC) analysis is one of the most used multiway methods in sensory analysis [2][3]. It is based on two basic assumptions: 1) there exist latent... |

While sufficient statistical data in the conventional food market enables decision-makers to opt for investments or policies on a well-founded basis, this data is lacking in the organic food market. A European Concerted Action project in co-operation with the EU statistical office, EUROSTAT, and funded by the European Union aims there-fore at developing a framework for collection and processing reliable and comprehen-sive data on organic markets. The first phase of the project with the aim of analysing the current situation and developing proposals is accomplished. The results are a number of detailed and specific suggestions to improve the data situation on the national and international level. |

In the framework of the OrganicDataNetwork project and internal project database was established in order to store the data collected in the two survey rounds of the OrganicDataNetwork project (Willer and Schaack 2013 and 2014). The database builds on the one that the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) use for their organic data collection activities. However, this database was considerably expanded during the OrganicDataNetwork project. This document explains the features of the internal OrganicDataNetwork database and how the data can be acceded. |

The aim of the workshop is to present the Code of Practice for the initiation and maintenance of good organic market data collection and publication procedures (OrMaCode). The Code of Practice consists of a list of principles/objectives and related indicators covering the different key areas of organic market data collection, processing, storage and publication /dissemination. Associated to the OrMaCode a practical Manual will be produced. The Manual contains specific guidelines for applying OrMaCode. It also contains guidelines for the collection of relevant sets of data and how to ensure that quality criteria specified in the Code of Practice will be met. The OrMaCode and the Manual, together with the enhanced Database produced throughout the project,... |

This report presents results of research on the financial performance of organic farms in the 2011/12 financial year (with 2010/11 data for reference). Carried out for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), this research continues project OF0373 and builds on previous work on the economics of organic farming carried out at Aberystwyth University (Projects OF0190, covering 1995/96 to 1998/99 and OF0189, covering 1999/00 to 2004/05)1. This report utilises data collected through the Farm Business Survey in England and Wales. An analysis of the FBS/Defra Data Archive for 2011/12 found a total of 251 businesses with some organic land. To ensure the analysis undertakes a reasonable comparison of organic and conventional farms, the... |

Despite the continuous growth of the organic market in Europe, in most countries only very basic statistics about this sector exist. Individual country governments collect data which are published nationally and by EUROSTAT (the statistical office of the European Union), on the number of certified organic holdings, organic and in-conversion land areas and livestock numbers. Important market statistics, however, such as the amount of production, consumption, retail sales, international trade and prices at the farm or consumer level are lacking in most European countries. To understand the availability of data on the organic market and to assist in improving data quality and availability, it is first necessary to be aware of the organisations that currently... |
