Effects of lidocaine on lipopolysaccharide-induced synovitis in horses Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Campebell,R.C.; Peiró,J.R.; Valadão,C.A.A.; Santana,A.E.; Cunha,F.Q..
Lidocaine (100mg 2%) injected into the carpal joint was used to evaluate the inflammatory response induced by injection (1.5ng) of intra-articular E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) endotoxin. Seventeen male Mangalarga horses aged two to three years were divided into three groups and in all animals was injected 0.9% saline (SAL) in the left carpus (LC), and in the right carpus (RC) one of the following combinations were injected: group A (n=6) LPS plus SAL; group B (n=6) LPS plus lidocaine; group C (n=5) lidocaine plus SAL. Synovial fluid and blood samples were collected immediately before the injection of LPS (T0), and at 1.5 (T1), 3 (T2), 6 (T3), 12 (T4) and 36 hours (T5) after the injection. Clinical and physical variables and cellular and biochemical...

Osteoarthritis in horses - Part 1: relationship between clinical and radiographic examination for the diagnosis BABT
Souza,Maria Verônica de.
ABSTRACT Locomotor disorders are very common in the equine clinic, which may be partly due to the different types of activities horses develop. Osteoarthritis (OA), commonly known as degenerative joint disease, presents an considerable role in the series of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and may be associated with other problems such as navicular syndrome, periostitis or osteochondrosis. This affection causes progressive deterioration of articular cartilage, accompanied by bone and soft-tissue periarticular changes. In fact, it results from a complex interaction between biochemical and biomechanical factors. The objective of this article is to review information about clinical and radiographic findings of OA, the biochemical and biomechanical...

Wrist ultrasound analysis of patients with early rheumatoid arthritis BJMBR
Mendonça,J.A.; Yazbek,M.A.; Laurindo,I.M.M.; Bertolo,M.B..
In the present study, we evaluated 42 wrists using the semi-quantitative scales power Doppler ultrasound (PDUS) and gray scale ultrasound (GSUS) with scores ranging from 0 to 3 and correlated the results with clinical, laboratory and radiographic data. Twenty-one patients (17 women and 4 men) with rheumatoid arthritis according to criteria of the American College of Rheumatology were enrolled in the study from September 2008 to July 2009 at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). The average disease duration was 14 months. The patients were 66.6% Caucasians and 33.3% non-Caucasians, with a mean age of 42 and 41 years, respectively. A dorsal longitudinal scan was performed by ultrasound on the radiocarpal and midcarpal joints using GE LOGIQ XP-linear...
