Cyanobacteria from coastal lagoons in southern Brazil: non-heterocytous filamentous organisms Rev. Bras. Bot.
Martins,Mariéllen Dornelles; Branco,Luis Henrique Zanini; Werner,Vera Regina.
This study describes and illustrates non-heterocytous filamentous cyanobacteria found in lagoon systems on the coastal plains of Rio Grande do Sul State. Collections were carried out in different freshwater bodies along the eastern (Casamento Lake area) and western (Tapes City area) margins of the Patos Lagoon (UTM 461948-6595095 and 542910-6645535) using a plankton net (25 µm mesh) in pelagic and littoral zones as well as by squeezing submerged parts of aquatic macrophytes, during both the rainy and dry seasons, from May to December/2003. Twenty two species belonging to the families Phormidiaceae (eight taxa), Pseudanabaenaceae (seven taxa), Oscillatoriaceae (six taxa), and Spirulinaceae (one taxon) were identified. Among these species, five are reported...

Cryptoglena, Monomorphina and Phacus (Euglenophyceae) of a reservoir in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil Rev. Bras. Bot.
Alves-da-Silva,Sandra Maria; Bicudo,Carlos E. de M..
Taxonomic survey of representatives of genera Cryptoglena Ehrenberg emend. Kosmala & Zakry´s, Monomorphina Mereschkowsky emend. Kosmala & Zakry´s and Phacus Dujardin (Euglenaceae, Euglenophyceae) of a reservoir in the municipality of Triunfo (30°02'15" S, 51°13'13" W), state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Samplings were performed at two stations during 14 consecutive months, from February 1995 to March 1996. Sixteen taxa including nine species, three varieties that are not typical of their respective species and one taxonomic forma also not typical of Phacus, two species of Monomorphina and one of Cryptoglena were identified. Phacuspseudobicarinatus is described as a new species. Phacuslongicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin var....

Diversity of Drosophilidae (Insecta, Diptera) in the Restinga forest of southern Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Mendes,Mayara Ferreira; Valer,Felipe Berti; Vieira,Júlia Gabriela Aleixo; Blauth,Monica Laner; Gottschalk,Marco Silva.
Abstract Although members of Drosophilidae are frequently the topic of ecological studies in Brazil, few have explored Restinga or, until only recently, Pampa biome environments. This study proposes to describe the diversity and temporal variation of the Drosophilidae assemblage from a Restinga forest of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. We performed monthly collections from February 2013 to January 2014 using yeasted banana-baited traps. A total of 25,093 individuals of 46 species were sampled. Drosophila simulans and the D. willistoni subgroup were the dominant taxa; D. polymorpha, D. immigrans, D. paraguayensis and Zygothrica orbitalis were of intermediate abundance, and the other 40 species were rare. Based on sampling effort estimators, our collections were...

Drosophilids (Diptera) from an Atlantic Forest Area in Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Döge,Jonas S.; Valente,Vera L. S.; Hofmann,Paulo R. P..
The present work aims at knowing the faunal composition of drosophilids in forest areas of southern Brazil. Besides, estimation of species richness for this fauna is briefly discussed. The sampling were carried out in three well-preserved areas of the Atlantic Rain Forest in the State of Santa Catarina. In this study, 136,931 specimens were captured and 96.6% of them were identified in the specific level. The observed species richness (153 species) is the largest that has been registered in faunal inventories conducted in Brazil. Sixty-three of the captured species did not fit to the available descriptions, and we believe that most of them are non-described species. The incidence-based estimators tended to give rise to the largest richness estimates while...
