Signatures spectrales des objets du littoral ArchiMer
Viollier, Michel; Belsher, Thomas; Loubersac, Lionel.
Spectral signatures were measured on the coast using a "high-resolution" spectroradiometer and a SPOT simulation radiometer. These data allow to define optical indexes that are useful for the characterization of seaweeds and of intertidal areas.

Refroidissements locaux aux abords du talus continental Armoricain ArchiMer
Langlois, Gilbert; Gohin, Francis; Serpette, Alain.
Infrared measurement at the sea surface, which constitutes an operational technology in remote-sensing, has become essential for the study of ocean dynamics. Nevertheless, observations are only usable when clouds do not mask infrared radiation coming from the ocean, a condition which rarely pertains in the Bay of Biscay as a whole. lt is consequently a matter of primary concern to have at one's disposai an effective method which permits the computation of mean SST fields from a chronological succession of incomplete images. In the case under consideration, "kriging" is the most widely practised method of performing geostatistical estimates. Before mapping isotherms, temperatures are estimated by interpolation on a regular gridnet. The process was applied...

L'algue japonaise Sargassum muticum (Yendo) fensholt. Caractéristiques et répartition ArchiMer
Loraine, Isabelle.
Sargassum muticum is a Japanese alga from the pheophycee class which has been introduced in Europe about fifteen years ago. It has greatly developed on account of its intrinsic characteristics (adaptation, growth speed, reproduction mode, etc...) and the favorable conditions it has encountered. The nuisance it generates can be very high but no efficient fighting solution has been found yet. Only mechanical means can be considered on a one off basis in areas where eradication is indispensable. Any development is faced with the problem of pick up costs. However the most interesting development for Sargassum muticum would be to utilize it as flocculent for suspended organic substances. Location updates for Sargassum muticum in France in 1989 did not show any...

Application of spot data to a base-line ecological study of the mahakam delta mangroves (east kalimantan, indonesia) ArchiMer
Dutrieux, Eric; Denis, Jacques; Populus, Jacques.
The objective of this study is to explain the spatial and temporal distribution of the vegetal communities of the Mahakam delta, chiefly on the basis of its physical and chemical characteristics. The delta is at present subjected to intense oil exploitation, and it is necessary to describe the situation on the site and its natural evolution in arder to be able to evaluate the damage that accidentai oil spillage could cause. The authors provide elements to define the sensitive zones whose protection should be a matter of priority. SPOT imagery was chosen as the tool allowing such an approach on a delta measuring 1 500 km2 SPOT satellite images of the Mahakam delta show that different plant communities succeed one another bath in time and in space. The...
