Der Wert von Befestigungsanlagen für den Erhalt der Biodiversität am Beispiel der Schnecken (Mollusca: Gastropoda) Naturalis
Kobialka, H.; Kappes, H..
Significance of fortifications for biodiversity conservation: The example of terrestrial gastropods (Mollusca: Gastropoda) Significance of fortifications for biodiversity conservation: The example of terrestrial gastropods (Mollusca: Gastropoda) The different microhabitats of the walls of historical fortifications harbor a gastropod fauna that is significantly distinct from that of the surroundings (such as meadows and forests). The communities on the vertical planes of the walls display the highest heterogeneity, and thus a high susceptibility to anthropogenic disturbances. Parts of the heterogeneity can be seen to result from different renovation intensities and stages of (re-) colonization. Many red-listed species were found in the microhabitats of...

Contrasting responses of two xerophilous land snails to fire and natural reforestation Naturalis
Santos, X.; Bros, V.; Ros, E..
Land-use change is considered the main disturbance in landscapestructure and composition, directly affecting faunal distributionand species richness worldwide. Wildfires and natural reforestation alter habitat structure in terms of vegetation cover and also in soil composition and moisture; these processes hence trigger habitat transformations that act as opposing forces at small spatial scales. We have explored the contrasting effects of wildfires and natural reforestation on two land-snail species of the genus Xerocrassa, which are endemic in the western Mediterranean. Snails were sampled in pine and Holm oak forest, stony bare slopes and burnt sites. Both species followed a similar pattern: they were present in more than 75% of the stony bare slope...

Composição de gastrópodes terrestres em duas áreas do Centro de Estudos Ambientais e Desenvolvimento Sustentado (CEADS), Vila Dois Rios, Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil: um estudo-piloto Zoologia
Santos,Sonia Barbosa dos; Monteiro,Daniele Pedrosa.
A survey of the Ilha Grande land snails was carried out in order to compare the diversity and similarity among two regions of secondary Atlantic Rain Forest. The diversity was estimated using the richness and the equitatibility; the alpha diversity was calculated using the Simpson index (γ). The Sörensen and Jaccard indexes were used to calculate the similarity. A quantitative survey of two 600 m² area, one in each studied region, recorded 336 individuals snails distributed in 23 species and 13 families. The region with more altered secondary forest showed higher richness (17) and diversity (γ = 3,6) than the region more preserved (richness = 14; γ = 2,78), but, the same equitatibility (0,20). The similarity was medium by Jaccard index (IJ = 0,52) and low...

A reversed coiled Neocyclotus prominulus (d'Orbigny) (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia, Cyclophoridae) from Grande Island, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Zoologia
Nunes,Gleisse K. M.; Santos,Sonia B. dos.
The first case of reversed coiled shell of Neocyclotus prominulus is reported here. One specimen out of 282 of Neocyclotus prominulus from Grande Island, is sinistral (0.35%). It is represented by a female reaching 3.5 whorls and 0.82 cm of maximum diameter.
