Les embouchures mésotidales (tidal inlets) et leur relation avec les littoraux adjacents - Exemple de la Barra Nova, Sud Portugal ArchiMer
Balouin, Yann.
Tidal inlets are among the most dynamic morphological features along the world coastlines. Their evolution and stability, frequently critical to the local environment, are dependent on the relative influence of longshore transport along adjacent coasts and tidal flows in the inlet. Main objective of this study was to quantify the processes involved in the inlet morphodynamics in order to determine the key parameters of these systems and to predict medium to long-term evolution. Morphology evolution (bathymetry, remote sensed video data), hydrodynamics and sediment transport measurements were analyzed to quantify the inlet dynamics. Our approach was based on the study of hydrosedimentary processes along the adjacent coastline, and inlet responses to...

Modélisation morphodynamique d'une embouchure tidale : Application aux Passes d'entrée du Bassin d'Arcachon ArchiMer
Cayocca, Florence.
The Arcachon tidal inlet exhibits a particularly active morphology due to strong tidal currents and rough wave conditions. During the past 300 years, maximum and minimum extents of the Cap Ferret sand spit have resulted in a difference of 8 km while two channels have alternatively allowed circulation between the lagoon and the ocean. A bidimensional horizontal morphodynarnic model was developed in order to simulate the system evolution under tidal forcing alone or under combined tide and wave action. Modelling at a scale of decades requires the definition of mean annual wave and tide conditions which are representative with respect to sediment transport. Medium term results thus give general trends of evolution. Driven by these average conditions and...

Monitoring the Topography of a Dynamic Tidal Inlet Using UAV Imagery ArchiMer
Long, Nathalie; Millescamps, Bastien; Guillot, Benoit; Pouget, Frederic; Bertin, Xavier.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are being increasingly used to monitor topographic changes in coastal areas. Compared to Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data or Terrestrial Laser Scanning data, this solution is low-cost and easy to use, while allowing the production of a Digital Surface Model (DSM) with a similar accuracy. Three campaigns were carried out within a three-month period at a lagoon-inlet system (Bonne-Anse Bay, La Palmyre, France), with a flying wing (eBee) combined with a digital camera. Ground Control Points (GCPs), surveyed by the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and post-processed by differential correction, allowed georeferencing DSMs. Using a photogrammetry process (Structure From Motion algorithm), DSMs and orthomosaics...

Wave energy distribution at inlet channel margins as a function of ebb tidal delta morphology: Cananéia Inlet, São Paulo, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
AMBROSIO,BRUNA G.; SOUSA,PAULO H.G.O.; GAGLIARDI,MARCELO H.; SIEGLE,EDUARDO.
Abstract Wave energy gradients between and along the margins of inlet channels play an important role in defining the inlet margins’ evolutionary processes, mainly those related to spit erosion or accretion, and inlet migration. The aim of this study is to understand the wave power distribution along the margins of a tidal inlet (Cananéia inlet, São Paulo, Brazil), its variation over time, and the influences of the ebb tidal delta morphology on the incoming waves. To evaluate changes in bathymetry and morphology of submersed features, we apply geoprocessing techniques to analyze nautical charts from the Brazilian Navy from 1939, 1971, 1985 and 2004. The numerical model MIKE21 SW was applied to assess wave propagation and nearshore wave power. Hence, wave...
