The Addition of Hatchery Liquid Waste to Dairy Manure Improves Anaerobic Digestion Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Lopes,WRT; Orrico,ACA; Garcia,RG; Orrico Jr,MAP; Manarelli,DM; Fava,AF; Nääs,IA.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the optimal inclusion level of liquid egg hatchery waste for the anaerobic co-digestion of dairy cattle manure. A completely randomized experimental was applied, with seven treatments (liquid hatchery waste to cattle manure ratios of0: 100, 5:95, 10:90, 15:85, 20:80, 25:75 and 30:70), with five replicates (batch digester model) each. The evaluated variables were disappearance of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and specific production of biogas and of methane. Maximum TS and VS disappearance of 41.3% and 49.6%, were obtained at 15.5% and 16.0% liquid hatchery waste inclusion levels. The addition of 22.3% liquid hatchery considerably reduced NDF substrate...

Effect of different substrates on composting of poultry litter R. Bras. Zootec.
Orrico,Ana Carolina Amorim; Centurion,Stanley Ribeiro; Farias,Romildo Marques de; Orrico Junior,Marco Antonio Previdelli; Garcia,Rodrigo Garófallo.
The objective was to evaluate the differences between distinct types of litter material and their combinations in the dynamics of degradation on the organic matter fractions and the quality of the final compound. The treatments were established according to material used as substrate for broiler litter: treatment 1 - rice husks; 2 - sugar cane bagasse; 3 - wood shavings; 4 - wood shavings + sugar cane bagasse; 5 - rice husks + sugar cane bagasse; and 6 - Napier grass. The following variables were monitored: temperature, levels of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), mass and volume of the pile, fibrous fraction, and levels and reductions of N, P and K during the process. Piles formed with Napier grass and sugar cane bagasse presented the highest...

Potential of biogas and methane production from anaerobic digestion of poultry slaughterhouse effluent R. Bras. Zootec.
Sunada,Natália da Silva; Orrico,Ana Carolina Amorim; Orrico Júnior,Marco Antônio Previdelli; Vargas Junior,Fernando Miranda de; Garcia,Rodrigo Garófallo; Fernandes,Alexandre Rodrigo Mendes.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of anaerobic digestion on the treatment of effluent from poultry slaughterhouse. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Waste Recycling from Animal Production/FCA/UFGD. During four weeks, eight experimental digesters, semi-continuous models, were loaded and set according to the hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 7, 14, 21 and 28 days, and according to the solid fraction treatment, separated with 1 mm sieve or without separation. The average weekly production of biogas and methane as well as the methane concentrations, the potential production per amount of chemical oxygen demand (COD) added and reduced, the concentrations of N, P and K at the beginning and end of process, and the most...

Crude glycerin in co-composting with laying hen manure reduces N losses Scientia Agricola

ABSTRACT: The composting of laying hen manure is an efficient way of treating waste and producing an organic fertilizer with excellent characteristics; however, the high N losses reduce its concentration in the resulting fertilizer. Associating this residue with crude glycerin (CG) promotes a better C:N ratio and contributes to higher N retention during composting, with improvements in solids reduction and production of organic fertilizer with higher concentration of this nutrient. We carried out this research considering the hypothesis that adding CG – a byproduct of biodiesel production – to laying hen waste composting provides better N retention in the fertilizer generated. Increasing CG doses (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 % in relation to the fresh mass in the...

Comparison of selection indexes for dairy goats in the tropics - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v35i3.16049 Animal Sciences
Lopes, Fernando Brito; Universidade Federal de Goiás; Silva, Marcelo Corrêa da; Universidade Federal de Goiás; Fioravanti, Maria Clorinda Soares; Universidade Federal de Goiás; Facó, Olivardo; Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária; McManus, Concepta; Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
The selection process in dairy goat was evaluated by selection indexes. Basal population of 1,000 does, randomly mated by 50 unselected and unrelated bucks, was simulated. Eight selection indexes in two production systems (intensive - indexes I-IV and semi-intensive - indexes V-XIII) were compared. Three groups of dairy goats (A, B and C) were simulated with a respective intensity of 10, 25 and 50%. Each group was composed of five generations and each generation was replicated 20 times. All traits were simulated using matrices of direct additive genetic and the residual (co)variance and the effect of Mendelian segregation. Statistical analyses were performed by repeated measurements in time. Selection using the suggested indexes improved all traits....
