Cardiac evaluation after experimental intoxication by Amorimia rigida (Malpighiaceae) extracts in rabbits J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Borboleta,LR; Silva,EF; Oliveira,MS; Michel,AFRM; Ferraz,VP; Leite,RC; Melo,MM.
Clinical and laboratory changes were evaluated in rabbits after intoxication by Amorimia rigida, a plant that causes sudden death. Nine New Zealand male rabbits, averaging 3.54 kg, were categorized into three groups (n = 3) and received, for eight consecutive days, the equivalent of 30 g/kg dry matter of A. rigida water-soluble (SG) and water-insoluble (IG) extracts via nasoesophageal route. The control group received water. There were no alterations in creatine kinase enzyme (CK), CK myocardial fraction (CKMB) or troponine I (cTnI). None of the animals had clinical or electrocardiographic (conventional and Holter) alterations. There were progressive decreases in the left ventricular ejection fraction and systolic fractional shortening. Doppler...

Weedy ferns (Polypodiopsida) in Argentina: diversity, distribution and impact on human activities and ecosystems Anais da ABC (AABC)
YAÑEZ,AGUSTINA; GUTIERREZ,DIEGO G.; PONCE,MARTA MÓNICA.
Abstract Currently, in Argentina 368 species of true ferns (i.e. Polypodiopsida class) are distributed throughout the country, however, only four of them have been mentioned until now as weeds and ruderal species. The goal of this work was to generate an update of weedy ferns from Argentina, including morphology, distribution, and type of weed according to their impact on natural habitats and/or human activities. All Argentinian fern species were analyzed based on references, herbarium specimens, and field trips. As a result of our study 25 species were recorded from Argentina and classified as segetal, ecological, or aquatic weeds, and ruderal and/or toxic species. Current taxonomic identity, diagnostic characters, origins, habitats, geographical...

Hydrocyanic acid content and growth rate of sorghum x sudangrass hybrid during fall Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Simili,Flávia Fernanda; Lima,Maria Lúcia Pereira; Medeiros,Maria Izabel Merino de; Paz,Claudia Cristina Paro de; Ruggieri,Ana Claudia; Reis,Ricardo Andrade.
In central Brazil after soybean or other annual agricultural species is harvested, sorghum hybrids are planted in the fall in order to establish pastures for grazing animals. This study conducted for two consecutive years aimed at quantifying the contents of hydrocyanic acid in the leaves and determining plant height, forage dry matter yield and the leaf/stem ratio for sorghum hybrid 1P400 at different ages. Statistical analysis was performed by regression analysis based on plant age. Leaf HCN content decreased with plant growth, ranging from 205.0 and 230.3 mg HCN/100 g leaf DM at two weeks old to 5.9 and 6.1 mg HCN/100 g leaf DM at five weeks old in the first and second year, respectively. The average heights measured varied from 60 and 56 cm, in the 4th...
