The Owen Fracture Zone is a 800 km-long fault system that accommodates the dextral strike-slip motion between India and Arabia plates. Because of slow pelagic sedimentation rates that preserve the seafloor expression of the fault since the Early Pliocene, the fault is clearly observed on bathymetric data. It is made up of a series of fault segments separated by releasing and restraining bends, including a major pull-apart basin at latitude 20 degrees N. Some distal turbiditic channels from the Indus deep-sea fan overlap the fault system and are disturbed by its activity, thus providing landmarks to date successive stages of fault activity and structural evolution of the Owen Fracture Zone from Pliocene to Present. New gravity and magnetic anomaly maps in the Taiwan-Luzon region and their preliminary interpretation ArchiMer

We have compiled new free-air gravity anomaly (FAA) and magnetic anomaly maps, shedding light on the tectonics in the Taiwan-Luzon region. To have a suitable datum level for both the available gravity and magnetic anomaly data, the set of data from an ACT cruise, conducted during May 27 to June 21, 1996, was chosen as a reference. Based on the cross-over error analysis, all the other data were adjusted accordingly. Some satellite-derived, airborne or land data were also added to the compilation to obtain better coverage. Several major new insights into the Taiwan-Luzon region are revealed by the new maps. Origin of volcanism on the flanks of the Pacific-Antarctic ridge between 41°30'S and 52°S ArchiMer

Non-hot spot, intraplate volcanism is a common feature near the East Pacific Rise or Pacific-Antarctic ridge. Volcanic ridges and seamount chains, tens to hundreds of kilometers long, are asymmetrically distributed about the ridge axis, with most volcanic features occurring on the Pacific plate. Their origins remain controversial. We have analyzed off-axis volcanic ridges near the Pacific-Antarctic ridge from bathymetry, backscatter, gravity, and geochemistry data of the Pacantarctic 2 cruise. K/Ar dating of samples dredged on these structures reveals a contrast of up to 3 Ma between the volcanoes and the underlying crust.
